Position Summary

Acquires natural gas supplies in the wholesale natural gas market utilizing existing enabling, transportation, and storage agreements to meet the highly variable requirements of CPS Energy's natural gas distribution customers and gas-fired power plants in a manner that provides reliable service and supports low-cost rates. Performs gas transaction accounting activities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Monitors gas market prices at appropriate market hubs and maintains current knowledge of gas infrastructure and supply developments and activities.
  • Works with the Fuels Gas Supply team to develop and maintain a portfolio of gas suppliers to provide a reliable source of potential gas supplies while maintaining an ethical and effective working relationship to support CPS Energy's highly variable service needs.
  • Assist in developing monthly baseload gas plans.
  • Assist in forecasting current day and next day gas requirements, develops a daily gas plan, and purchases required gas supplies.
  • Assist in coordinating of the daily gas supply arrangements with ESMO controllers, gas suppliers, and gas pipelines to ensure available gas supplies are utilized in a manner that results in the lowest delivered cost.
  • Assist in providing the gas supply instructions and gas dispatch price to ESMO controllers and adjust as needed to changing gas requirements.
  • Captures gas transaction data and calculates settlement information.
  • Assist in providing gas cost estimates and actual gas cost reports to accounting.
  • Assist in providing gas transaction information to support invoice processing and other reporting.
  • Provides guidance and support to nominate daily gas transactions with gas suppliers and gas pipelines to ensure accurate and timely delivery of gas supplies.
  • Performs administrative activities related to gas acquisition, gas accounting, and natural gas-related reporting.
  • Assist in negotiations of transportation and storage agreements.
  • Assist with the coordination of gas needs for required pipeline/plant testing, inspections, and pig runs.
  • Available to be on call 7 days a week for required generation changes to supply.
  • Ad hoc reporting and administration which includes but is not limited to contract administration, post-analysis, etc.
  • Provide required consumption volumes and forecasts to pipeline providers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work with be supervised and unsupervised.

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Professional experience in natural gas trading emphasizing the Texas wholesale natural gas market.
Critical analytical experience demonstrated in a similar position.
Valid Texas Driver's License.
NERC certification must be completed within 30 days of employment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
Experience with an ETRM is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Engineering OR professional experience in natural gas trading emphasizing the Texas wholesale natural gas market.

Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, and calculator.
Ability to travel to and from client meetings, training sessions and other business-related events.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking & standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
