MARINE ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN

Location: Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Cape May, NJ

Salary: $38.89 per hour ($80,898 annualized)

Opening Date: March 14, 2025 __________________Closing Date: April 14, 2025

I. POSITION SUMMARY
Diagnose and effect necessary repairs and installation of all electrical, electronic, and navigational
systems on board Authority vessels, work boat, and shore side facilities. Responsible for following
established safety practices while performing assigned duties to protect self, co-workers, and the
public from personal injury and to prevent damage to Authority property. This position is a
bargaining unit position that is represented by the Marine Engineers' Beneficial Association
(MEBA).

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Install, diagnose problems, and service electrical equipment
* Diagnose and repair electro-mechanical & hydraulic devices or systems
* Repair and rebuild electric motors and controllers
* Take periodic measurements of electrical devices of ABS and Coast Guard
* Install, tune, and maintain two-way radio equipment (marine and mobile), sound powered
phone systems, and radar equipment
* Install or repair shipboard phones, GPS, depth finders, gyro compasses, and entertainment
systems
* Repair and maintain normal and emergency power distribution switchboards, electrical
generators, and all other shipboard power distribution components
* Maintain a clean and safe work area and assist other skilled employees in their craft
* Ability to provide superior customer service to everyone by responding in a courteous and
efficient manner
* Equipment Used in Job Performance:
o All types of mechanical and pneumatic hand tools
o Drill press, electric drills, grinders, hydraulic hole punches, electric strippers, and
crimpers
o Motor vehicles, forklift
o Wire bundle and stripping tools, arbor press, oscilloscope, frequency counter and
wattmeter
o Two-way radios, computers, soldering irons and torches
o Assortment of electrical and electronic measuring devices necessary to make diagnosis
and effect repairs
o Communications Service Monitor

III. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Familiar with the use of all types of hand tools and measuring devices
* Must be able to understand electrical and electronic schematics and blueprints
* Repair and troubleshoot control circuits
* Must be familiar with marine electrical requirements of USCG and ABS with regard to the
Cape May-Lewes Ferry vessels
* Knowledge of the NEC, IEEE, IEC and other electrical and electronics and conventions as
they apply to Authority vessels
* Must be able to install marine wiring in a neat and safe manner
* Must be familiar with safety precautions involved in this field
* Ability to provide excellent customer service

IV. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent or equivalent related experience
* Five (5) years of experience in shipboard electrical and electronic maintenance and repair

V. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES

* Must have a valid F.C.C. General Radio Telephone Maintainer License with Radar
Endorsement, FCC Elements 1, 3, 8, and 9, or obtain within 120 days of employment
* Valid driver's license
* Must apply for and receive Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and Transportation
Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within 90 days of employment
* Must be willing to attend and successfully complete the following training and obtain
required licensing for the following;
* Sperry Gyro Training
* Sperry Radar/Radar Unit Training
* Sperry Antenna

VI. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Subject to background investigation and pre-employment physical including drug test
* Delaware River and Bay Authority requires all employees to have direct deposit with a
financial institution to receive their biweekly pay
* Applicants must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be
required in order to maintain continuous operation of this facility
