Technical Accounting Manager
Dallas, TX- Hybrid- 4 days onsite

Compensation: $120k-$145k + bonus (depending on experience)

Position Summary:
One of Vaco's large Healthcare clients is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Accounting Manager to join their growing team. This individual will play a pivotal role in the accounting department, providing expertise on complex accounting issues, including but not limited to purchase accounting, goodwill, and impairment.


This role is particularly exciting due to the recent spinoff and announced acquisition, meaning the candidate will be involved in significant transactions and new accounting requirements. They will be instrumental in handling technical accounting matters, including the preparation of memos for new accounting standards and acquisitions, and will be a key contributor to financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Purchase Accounting: Manage and execute the purchase accounting process for acquisitions, ensuring proper application of accounting guidance and integration of acquired assets and liabilities.
  • Accounting Research: Lead research and implementation of new accounting standards (ASUs), with a particular focus on transactions related to debt, goodwill, impairment, and going concern considerations.
  • Memos Preparation: Prepare technical accounting memos related to goodwill, impairment, going concern, and other complex areas, ensuring thorough analysis and clear communication for management.
  • Cash Flow Statement: Oversee the preparation and review of cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and proper presentation of operating, investing, and financing activities.
  • Management Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for technical accounting matters, ensuring that complex accounting issues are clearly communicated to senior management in an actionable and understandable way.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Collaborate closely with other members of the accounting team and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless implementation of new accounting standards and transactions.
  • New ASUs: Stay current on new and emerging accounting standards, lead the process of assessing their impact on the company, and work with the team to implement required changes.
  • Support with Transactions: Provide technical accounting expertise on key transactions, including acquisitions, debt issuance, and other significant corporate events.
  • Technical Accounting Guidance: Provide ongoing support to internal teams regarding technical accounting issues and help ensure compliance with GAAP in various areas, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, and financial reporting.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a technical accounting or specialized role.
  • Strong experience with purchase accounting and technical accounting memos related to goodwill, impairment, and going concern.
  • In-depth knowledge of new accounting standards (ASUs) and the ability to implement changes and communicate these to management.
  • Experience with preparing cash flow statements and understanding complex financial transactions.
  • Strong understanding of complex accounting areas such as debt transactions, goodwill, impairments, and acquisitions.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to apply accounting principles to real-world scenarios.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical accounting matters to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, lead projects, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a company that has recently undergone a spinoff or is involved in significant mergers and acquisitions.
  • Familiarity with ASC 805 (Business Combinations), ASC 350 (Goodwill and Other Intangibles), and ASC 360 (Impairment of Long-Lived Assets).
  • Strong background in preparing technical accounting memos for complex transactions and new ASUs.
  • Previous experience with debt transactions and understanding their impact on financial reporting.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
