Job Description

Position Summary

This position will provide much needed and critical support in delivery of services to our customers. They will handle the day-to-day operations, scheduling, requirements gathering, ensuring projects stay on time, customer engagement, ticket triage, as well as information dissemination to both internal team members, the wider IT organization, between campuses and to customers.

This position is within the Research Support Solutions (ITRSS) group in Information Technology. ITRSS provides system and device support, consulting, training and centralized resources for the research community's growing technology needs. The staff works closely with researchers to evaluate their research technology needs and recommend solutions that allow them to take full advantage of the resources available, enabling them to go further, faster. This includes everything from the sensor or instrument on the bench to high-performance compute cluster support.

Basic Function & Responsibilities

Demonstrate a high level of initiative, independence, and maturity in all aspects of work; use creative and critical thinking techniques to identify and implement new or novel ways to improve services and service delivery and demonstrate effective delegation skills when applicable. Contribute to the successful completion of assignments and projects by providing a variety of information including but not limited to cost estimates, return-on-investment analysis, business cases, feature and functionality reports, process design documents, project schedules and status etc. Due to the restricted research projects this position will work with, individuals in this position must be eligible to receive export-controlled information. VISA sponsorships are not available for this position. Additionally, the successful candidate should be able to attain a secret security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain knowledge about IT and related resources available through the University of Missouri and its partners applicable to supporting scientific research
  • Project management of internal projects, which includes problem solving, solution implementation, and task management
  • Coordinate across multiple areas of the ITRSS team, along with outside groups to communicate multiple needs/requests and implement solutions. This includes peers at both Missouri S&T and partner institutions
  • Participate in the grant proposal process by assisting in the development of budgets, descriptions of capabilities and services, cyberinfrastructure and data management plans, and obtaining letters of support
  • Coordinate tours, events and outreach with customers, other campus departments, other campuses and organizations to further the mission of the university for K-12 STEM initiatives as well as recruitment of prospective students
  • Perform metric reporting and analysis
  • Manage and assist in the development of Memorandums of Understanding, technical documentation, policy, and external communications
  • Participate in resource planning and organizational efforts to ensure the team operates effectively
  • Facilitate processes for research IT procurement, software availability, communication, and other workflows to expedite researcher support
  • Facilitate development and maintenance of defined service catalog with Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) based rates
  • Work with team and vendors to understand hardware, products and solutions and provide cost and performance analysis, recommendations for purchases, management of the purchasing process, and maintain inventory
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers and stakeholders to understand business and functional needs; provide regular updates to affected parties

Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck. The University of Missouri provides generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions of up to 8% that add to your bottom line. Educational Assistance of 75% for employees and 50% for spouse and children is available after the first six months of employment. Living in a small community means that you won't spend hours in traffic, as most people have a commute of 10-20 minutes to campus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and at least 2 years of experience
  • Experience managing projects and/or events
Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with IT service delivery
  • Project Management certifications and methodologies (PMP, ITIL)
  • Experience in a wide variety of units within Higher Education
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,223-$73,008 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
