Hours and Compensation: MIM will work with interns to create a schedule that fits the needs of both the student and the department. Interns will be compensated at the current minimum wage. Candidates for this internship should be able to fulfill approximately 20 hours per week.

Position Summary: MIM seeks an intern to work alongside its creative team on various aspects of marketing and communications for the museum and MIM Music Theater. The intern will work closely with MIM's communications specialist and other members of the creative team.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Research and compile media contact lists for national, local, and niche outlets.
  • Assist in drafting compelling pitch emails and coordinating journalist outreach.
  • Conducting public relations techniques, including "call-downs" to media contacts to follow up on pitches and event invitations.
  • Assist with media tracking, updating internal databases, and maintaining organized records.
  • Organize and maintain press kit materials including fact sheets, high-resolution images, and key talking points.
  • Help facilitate media visits, interviews, and photoshoots.
  • Research editorial calendars and upcoming media opportunities to inform strategic outreach.
  • Submit upcoming MIM events, concerts, and exhibitions to online and print event calendars.
  • Ensure all written materials align with MIM's brand voice, style, and messaging guidelines
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain consistent strategic messaging that supports departmental goals.
  • Special exhibition Support:
    • Identify local and national influencers, bloggers, and niche media to amplify coverage.
    • Draft outreach emails or invitations for influencers to visit the exhibition.
    • Research partnerships with relevant organizations, museums, or cultural institutions for potential cross-promotions.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent research, writing, and proofing skills
  • Current student enrolled in an accredited degree program, or a recent college graduate
  • Self-starter demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Able to work both independently and with supervision
  • Well organized and able to manage details efficiently
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Previous marketing or communications experience, with a desire to pursue a career in marketing or communications preferred
  • Background in music is a plus
