Job Summary: The Asphalt Superintendent will supervise asphalt paving and road construction projects. The Asphalt Superintendent is a full-time position, requires travel with overtime through peak season, reports to the Paving Division Manager, and has supervisory responsibility. - Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules, and projects.
- Be aware of and familiar with the Company Handbook.
- Teach, coach, and work with the team in a constructive manner.
- Actively participate in any recommended or mandatory training.
- Additional duties as assigned by management, as this job description is non-exhaustive.
- Process required paperwork throughout the day.
- Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for heavy highway construction projects, including asphalt paving, grading, drainage, and other dirtwork activities.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and project plans to determine project scope and cost.
- Perform material takeoffs, labor, and equipment estimates for large-scale construction projects.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to gather pricing and scope information.
- Evaluate project costs and compare with previous bid proposals to ensure competitive pricing.
- Provide cost analysis and value engineering alternatives to project managers and clients.
- Assist in preparing bid proposals and submitting them to clients.
- Review project budgets, schedules, and progress to ensure that projects remain on track and on budget.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to gather project-specific information.
- Track project changes and modify estimates as necessary throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
- Support the project team by providing input on construction methods, materials, and resource allocation.
- Stay current on industry trends, regulations, and best practices
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of 4 years of estimating experience in heavy highway construction.
- Experience in asphalt paving, dirtwork, grading, drainage, and related civil work preferred.
- Proficient in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, or similar programs.
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and project cost control techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred but not required.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
