Position Highlights |
The School of Natural Resources and the Environment (SNRE) is hiring an experienced limited term adjunct lecturer to instruct Study Abroad Programs focused on different ecosystems, conservation biology, biodiversity while developing international experience in field settings. This position is expected to end in August 2025 and the successful candidate will teach a course titled Desert Ecology and Conservation Biology in Namibia, Africa. This course involves teaching a 6-unit course about field skills in international settings as they relate to conservation biology and environmental conservation. The course emphasizes issues related to cultural immersion, hands-on experiential learning, field experiences and international conservation. Students will have the opportunity to explore the African Savannah and stay in roof tents on 4x4 vehicles at well-equipped camp sites. The instructor will also be required to teach about different ecosystems in the area, their conservation status and management options. This position is based in Tucson, Arizona, but will require travel to Namibia, Africa for approximately 7 weeks. The University of Arizona has been recognized for our innovative work-life programs. Duties & Responsibilities |
- The instructor will be responsible for all academic and logistic tasks for the field course.
- Arrange and develop all class materials.
- Arrange and manage travel plans including vehicles, permits and accommodations in collaboration with local contacts.
- Conduct instruction in the field.
- Arrange and manage student research projects.
- Maintain existing contacts with local authorities and researchers.

Minimum Qualifications |
- PhD in ecology and evolutionary biology or related field.
- Experience with undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
- Experience with teaching study abroad courses in rain forest biodiversity in Ecuador Experience with collecting field data.
- Experience with analysis of biological data.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Prior experience leading study abroad programs for universities.
