The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Communications and Strategic Engagement, the Manager, Communications and Strategic Engagement is responsible for supporting the overall strategy, execution, management, and success of internal and external relationship-building and communications for the Career Management Center (CMC).

Responsibilities

Content Creation and Management:



  • Exercises strong written and visual communication skills for independently producing, writing, and editing of all department communications, media, and brand assets, including newsletters, pamphlets, flyers, executive communications, letters, reports, announcements, and other materials.


  • Utilizes design skills, including in-depth knowledge of design principles and the use of software such as the Adobe Creative suite and Canva amongst others to execute the department's brand and messaging requirements.


  • Deploys campaigns and standalone communications using email publication platforms, tracks engagement, and supports engagement analysis. Awareness of the importance of the principles of accessibility for a diverse audience. The incumbent does this proactively based on the strategic communications plan.


  • Produces the design of presentations; formats and edits content for presentations and written reports for diverse audiences, including high-level stakeholders, which may feature multiple charts, tables, and graphs. Requires little oversight for all content production.


  • Catalogs and maintains assets such as archives of photos, content, and shared materials.


  • Deploys expertise in the use of social media platforms for institutional communications.



Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Building:



  • Works with the Marketing & Communications team, Columbia IT, and other partners to manage and deploy digital communications. Keeps up to date with new tools and platforms to enhance digital engagement for communications.


  • Works closely with the Marketing & Communications team and other stakeholders to keep current website content and design for all of the Career Management Center's web pages.


  • Participates in meetings with stakeholders to assess their promotional and communications requirements. Translates stakeholder needs to produce relevant materials and project manages the fulfillment of those requirements.


  • Promotes the Career Management Center through social media accounts, proposing and developing content, and engaging with other University accounts. Works with the Senior Associate Director to track and analyze



Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2-4 years related experience required.
  • Experience executing multi-channel design strategy.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and to work with diverse teams.
  • Must have strong familiarity with content design, publication, and engagement analytics platforms such as email publication software, social media, website design, and presentation software. Including but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, HTML, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Suite (including Google Analytics), and Hootsuite.
  • Comfort with utilizing project management tools to track project status/progress.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, meet tight deadlines, and work independently.
  • Must be able to quickly adapt to shifting priorities and manage time efficiently while working on and leading multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with students, alumni, faculty, and administrators.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree that includes coursework in communications, graphic design, marketing, or related topics.
  • Ability or demonstrated interest in learning new software and adopting new capabilities, growing as the communications landscape grows.
