The Studio Manager will work closely with the Senior Director of Ceramics and 92NY staff to manage logistics, maintain safe and functional studios at both temporary sites, and contribute to the planning and setup of the new, permanent ceramics studio. This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented leader who can navigate the complexities of studio moves, anticipate logistical challenges, and support both faculty and students in adapting to evolving studio environments.

  • Collaborate with departments, including Building Services, IT, and outside vendors, to coordinate logistics for the move, ensure necessary infrastructure is in place at the temporary locations, and support planning for the build-out of the new ceramics studio.
  • Oversee the upkeep and organization of both temporary studios, including the maintenance of ceramics equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee daily studio operations, ensuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are available, maintained, and in working order across both locations.
  • Manage kiln operations, troubleshooting, and safety protocols to ensure proper firing schedules.
  • Manage logistics for youth handbuilding classes taking place offsite during afterschool programming.
  • Support the Senior Director in making key decisions regarding the setup of the new permanent ceramics studio.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Senior Director and other stakeholders to ensure that the vision for the new ceramics space is aligned with program needs.
  • Foster a collaborative and safe working environment in the studios, addressing any issues that arise quickly and efficiently.
  • Ensure all studio spaces meet health and safety regulations, including kiln operation, chemical storage, and general studio practices. Maintain clear safety protocols for students and staff.

  • BFA in Ceramics or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in ceramics studio management, ideally in a multi-location environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ceramics equipment, including kilns, wheels, hand-building tools, and other necessary materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate teams, with hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Flexibility and ability to support the team through an evolving studio environment and transformational period.
