The Role: The Vermont Department of Taxes Compliance Division is seeking a dynamic and service-minded professional to lead our audit sections as Audit Manager. The Department's next Audit Manager will be at the forefront of ensuring tax compliance, financial accuracy, and operational integrity of the Department's audit functions. This position will lead the creation and implementation of audit programs, manage audit case assignments, evaluate the return on investment of these programs, assess and address the training needs of auditors, and identify opportunities for public educational outreach. This management-level position will report directly to the Director of Compliance and will work closely with other members of the Department's leadership team, including the Department's General Counsel, Chief Operating Officer, and other Division Directors. Direct reports to this position currently include three Audit Section Chiefs, who oversee both field and desk auditors, as well as two Corporate Audit Specialists. The hourly salary rate for this position ranges from $38.32 to $60.21, and State of Vermont benefits are very competitive. The annualized salary for this position ranges from approximately $79,705.60 to $125,236.80. The salary range reflects the minimum and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade, and the annualized salary figure is calculated based on 2080 hours of annual compensation and does not include authorized overtime or other compensation. It also doesn't include any time taken off payroll. The starting salary for this position may be negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. Duties are performed independently from central office setting. Travel may be required. Some audit situations may assume a somewhat adversarial nature, requiring significant tact and persistence to complete a successful audit or resolution of a dispute or appeal. Pressure from work deadlines is predictable. Multitasking and setting priorities is required. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, public or business administration, public policy or a related field AND three (3) or more years experience in administration, accounting, auditing or in business administration involving fiscal management AND two (2) or more years of supervisory experience. OR Five (5) or more years' experience in administration, accounting, auditing or in business administration involving fiscal management AND three (3) or more years of supervisory experience.
