Position Summary:

The Technical Writer II is responsible for developing technical documentation utilizing approved templates, work instructions, and MIL-STD page-based manuals. The Technical Writer II works in a team environment with other Technical Writers, and must be able to collaborate with Engineering and Product Management teams within SIG SAUER.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit technical documentation per company and technical writing process and work instructions, with limited supervision.
  • Create images and charts that increase user understanding.
  • Work with Product Managers and engineering groups on product and documentation requirements.
  • Create weekly statuses to review and discuss during weekly team meetings.
  • Organize tasks each day to complete work on time and prioritize projects.
  • Focus on important and time-sensitive tasks while limiting non-essential duties.
  • Deliver work on time and manage workload effectively.
  • Must be flexible with priority changes and can manage multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Analyze content provided by teams for documentation and apply proper style, structure, and tone.
  • Assist Technical Writer I team members, as needed.
  • Assist and volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Must be able to travel
  • Participate in and sustain 6S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree is preferred. 5+ years of experience as Technical Writer is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience using and maintaining firearms is preferred.
  • Experience with MIL-STD formats, and the ability to develop, write, and edit technical documentations.
  • Highly skilled in MS Office products, Adobe Suite applications such as In-Design, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator is required.
  • Highly skilled in using SolidWorks (CAD) and SolidWorks Composer, with the ability to create images.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, set goals, and develop systems for achieving those goals.
  • Juggle multiple responsibilities simultaneously, stay focused on deadlines, and handle complex projects efficiently.
  • Must maintain an orderly workspace, meet deadlines, and communicate well with the team.
  • Demonstrate prioritizing tasks, keeping track of process steps, seeing projects through to completion, structuring data, and managing schedules and deadlines.
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced setting and manage assignments with tight deadlines from multiple sources.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others in English, both verbally and in written form.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Working Conditions:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, twist, lift, and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
