Family Health Centers at NYU Langone, a designated Level 3 Medical Home, is the largest federally qualified health center network in New York State, and the second largest in the nation. Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Specialist-Healthy Steps.

In this role, the successful candidate Working in collaboration with the pediatric care team, the bilingual English-Spanish Child Development Specialist provides support for families and children to facilitate healthy development, self-regulation skills, and family resiliency. In addition, the Child Development Specialist conducts child development assessments and provides child development guidance to primary care givers at well child visits with the goal of facilitating children's healthy growth and development. The Specialist also delivers the PlayReadVIP intervention, an evidence-based parenting program that uses videotaping and developmentally-appropriate toys, books and resources to help parents utilize pretend play, shared reading, and daily routines as opportunities for strengthening early development and literacy. The Child Development Specialist works primarily in Pediatrics and collaborates to deliver a new model of care that screens children and their families and connects them with specialized services early on.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts office visits and developmental screenings in collaboration with the pediatric care team.
  • Works closely with the pediatric team as a resource for developmental and parenting concerns.
  • Administers PlayReadVIP program to parents of infants and young children, which involves tips about reading, playing, and interacting with children, videotaping parents and children playing together, providing general positive reinforcement about the video
  • Participates in reflective supervision meetings.
  • Provides anticipatory guidance to parents and other primary caregivers around common concerns such as early learning, fussiness, sleep, feeding, discipline, etc.
  • Documents all patient activity and care coordination in patient record and other appropriate data systems.
  • Provides referrals and tracks follow-up, as appropriate, to help families make connections to services when a delay or concern is identified.
  • Works closely with the pediatric providers around care coordination, goal setting, counseling, coaching and education about key aspect of a child's development.
  • Works collaboratively with program stakeholders supporting implementation, research and quality improvement processes.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Masters degree in nursing, psychology, counseling, or social work required.
Minimum 2 years' of experience with parenting, child development, social work or human service work.
Bilingual in Spanish and English or Mandarin and English is required. Depending on the work site, either language combination can be required. English proficiency (speaking and writing) required. Spanish/Mandarin fluency required; written Spanish/Mandarin proficiency a big plus..

Preferred Licenses: Licensed Social Worker - NYS

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong preference given to licensed and currently registered to practice nursing, psychology, counseling, or social work in New York State.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated expertise in child development issues.
Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved populations in a community setting.
Must be empathic, supportive and patient.
Strong motivational interviewing skills.
Ability to work with people of many cultures.
Ability to take initiative and willingness to learn.
Ability to work well both in teams and independently.
Ability to collect and enter data for program management, evaluation and reporting purposes

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $66,415.19 - $77,380.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
