JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Airfield Manager (AAFM) supports the Airfield Manager (AFM) in overseeing all airfield activities at Martyr BG Ali Falih AB, Balad (AFAB). The AAFM reports directly to the AFM and is responsible for supervising all airfield operations specialists within the airfield management operations (AMOPS) section under the air operations group (AOG). This role involves managing administrative, operational, and maintenance functions to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant airfield operations. Key responsibilities include supervising, coordinating, and reviewing aircraft operations, as well as overseeing the maintenance of buildings and airfield facilities. The AAFM will also coordinate aircraft requirements, enforce relevant regulations regarding airfield operations, safety, and security, and participate in the planning of future contract projects related to the airfield. Additionally, the AAFM will assist in determining and recommending staffing requirements, as well as coordinating airfield construction, maintenance, and related work with the host nation, stakeholders, company departments, and subcontractors. When the AFM is unavailable, the AAFM will serve as an alternate. Additionally, the AAFM actively supports and promotes the company's vision, mission, and values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform duties as AFM in their absence.
  • Supervise all aviation operations specialist personnel in the AMOPS section, including US national and local national positions. Specifics include scheduling, tracking leave, annual training requirements, in-processing new hires, and additional administrative/supervisory functions.
  • Under the AMOPS section, reviews all personnel evaluations, recognitions, and disciplinary write-ups for both US national and local national airfield operations specialists.
  • Consults frequently with the AFM and department directors/managers help develop policy and procedural directives for stakeholder's possible adoption and carries out policies and directives of corporate.
  • Interpret policies, ordinances, rules, and regulations that govern airfield operations and activities.
  • Develops and oversees procedures and systems for the inspection, maintenance, safety, and security of airfield infrastructure, facilities, buildings, structures, equipment, and grounds.
  • Interfaces with governmental agencies, host nation, corporate entities, and different business organizations.
  • Perform all other tasks as assigned.
  • Responsible for developing and administering the airfield driving program.
  • Day and night shift work is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must possess the required skill level and meet the career progression standards as outlined in DAFMAN 13-204v2, with qualifications at the craftsman level or equivalent.
  • USAF Advanced Airfield Manager Course.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in airfield management.
  • At least three (3) years of prior experience as an assistant airfield manager.
  • A minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory or leadership role overseeing airfield operations, personnel, and compliance with airfield regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in interpreting and applying airfield criteria and operational standards (UFC, ICAO, U.S. Air Force, FAA, etc.) across various airfield types and aircraft operations.
  • A preferred bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with significant coursework in aviation management, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • A valid U.S. driver's license and the ability to obtain an airfield driver's permit. Normal color vision is required.
  • Ability to plan and guide the work of a technical team in a multinational austere environment, identifying priorities and adjusting them as necessary.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain partnerships with external collaborators, effectively advocate for a consensus-based system, and manage and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to take ownership of responsibilities, honor commitments, exercise mature judgment, recognize key issues, analyze relevant information, and make feasible recommendations and sound decisions.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Capable of reacting quickly, calmly, and effectively in emergencies or stressful situations.
  • Experience in various aspects of aerodrome management, including technical operations, personnel administration, and the military/commercial sectors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS

  • The position requires the ability to work in a challenging physical environment, which may include exposure to sand, strong odors, noise, extreme weather conditions, and various occupational risks.
  • Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and be capable of working in high temperatures exceeding 90F (32C).
  • Flexibility is essential, as the role may involve short notice movement in adverse conditions.
