Job Description

Summary

Multi-craft position performing work involving the skills of two or more industrial maintenance areas. Follows detailed job specific instructions to ensures processes and procedures are followed in an efficient and productive manner. Works under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods.

Alternate Path Option: Multi-craft position but may have an emphasis in either electrical or mechanical.

  • Electrical Path must possess intermediate to advanced electrical and PLC troubleshooting knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Mechanical Path requires in-depth hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Both Paths: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Wear appropriate PPE which may include fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head and eye protection.
  • Uses proper lifting and ergo techniques.
  • Proactively promotes The McWane Way Principles.
  • Inspects, operates, or tests machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction.
  • Plans and lays out repair work using diagrams, drawings, maintenance manuals, schematics, or other specification to determine repair or installation procedures.
  • Requests equipment and supplies for maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies to ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them, referencing manuals, draws, or catalogs as needed.
  • Dismantles machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Installs, replaces, changes or repairs machine parts and attachments, according to production specifications using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or testing equipment.
  • Cleans or lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.
  • Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
  • Electronically completes CMMS work orders to identify problems and logging man hours for time worked per work order.
  • Communicates with supervisor, team lead and/or other trades workers to coordinate installations and complete projects or repairs.
  • Works with the team to reduce / eliminate bottlenecks to reach team goals.
  • Works on continuous improvement projects.
  • Understands and uses rigging in the use of cranes and hoists
  • Assists in root cause analysis and recommends actions to be taken.

ADVANCED MECHANICAL PATH

  • Reads and interprets more complex machine drawings and hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Assembles, tests, and troubleshoots hydraulic, pneumatic equipment or systems.
  • Cuts and welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Replaces and aligns couplings.
  • Troubleshoots, repair, and rebuilds hydraulic pumps, water pumps, intensifier pumps.
  • Tracks and replaces conveyor belts.
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and rebuilds drive systems.

ADVANCED ELECTRICAL PATH

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and installs industrial control systems.
  • Runs and bends conduit to NEC Code Standards.
  • Pulls wires and makes wire terminations.
  • Inspects electrical systems and their components to evaluate condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.
  • Diagnoses simple to intermediate causes of electrical problems or failures for identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
  • Tests electrical systems and circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Understands E&I drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses basic I/O systems.
  • Designs and wires start/stop stations.
  • Wires 3-way and 4-way switches.
  • Install and replace soft starts and variable frequency drives (VFD).
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma/GED preferred.
  • Completion of a vocational certificate program in Industrial Maintenance, Electrician, or related program plus two years' experience in industrial maintenance, or completion of a formal apprenticeship program plus two years' experience in industrial maintenance; or four years' experience in industrial maintenance required.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: ADVANCED MECHANICAL PATH

  • Must be proficient in cutting and welding components.
  • Passing written exam to demonstrate competency in mechanical maintenance with pneumatic and hydraulics emphasis on valves, pumps, motors.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: ADVANCED ELECTRICAL PATH

  • Knowledge and ability to work on 240 - 480 volt three-phase power and 24 -120-volt controls.
  • Passing written exam to demonstrate competency in electrical maintenance with higher level electrical emphasis on circuits, motor controls, multi-phase motors, power distribution, and PLC ladder logic and troubleshooting.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract and to multiply and divide. Uses mathematics to solve problems.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
