Job Skills / Requirements POSITION SUMMARY:
The payroll specialist directly supports the payroll team to ensure accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting payroll, and implementing and maintaining appropriate internal controls, policies, and procedures. The payroll specialist will report to the Payroll Manager.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and will include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
* Enter, maintain, and/or process information in the payroll system; information may include employees hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, wage garnishments, child support payments and other information.
* Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
* Issue, or reissue, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
* Address issues and questions regarding payroll from employees and supervisors
* Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll
* Process, maintain, and support payroll required reports and documentation in a timely manner
* Maintain and file all supporting documentation in a timely manner
* Update paper and electronic payroll records by entering adjustments on pay rates, employee status changed etc.
* Provide routine (or as needed) accounting support that contributes to the effective functioning of the finance department and its operating systems
* Ensure compliance with State and Federal payroll requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Maintain the ability to manage full payroll cycle
Knowledgeable in State and Federal payroll requirements
Advanced knowledge of excel
Ability to work independently
Proven dependability and consistency
Detail-Oriented and conscientious
Outstanding communication skills; written and oral
Ability to consistently meet deadlines, follow up and effectively use time
Solid knowledge of accounting fundamentals and payroll best practices
Willingness to perform additional functions as needed
Strong problem-solving skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: 2-5 years of experience in payroll

Microsoft Office Suite
Word
Excel
Teams
PowerPoint
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office Setting- on-site
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
* Ability to organize office systems through adjusting, connecting, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, or folding for the purpose of proper records development and/or management
* Occasionally walk around office to printers, copy and fax machines, and file room
* Ability to sit while working at the computer
* Ability to reach forward to answer the telephone and to use the computer
* Ability to power grip the telephone, finger press to operate the computer keyboard, calculator, and telephone keypad, and pulp pinch to handle papers
* Possess speaking skills and hearing ability to interact with customers on the telephone
