For more information about the company and product line visit: www.sigsauer.com Position Summary: The Gunsmith I has a background in design, development, and fabrication of prototype firearms and concepts. Can assemble firearms from finished parts. This entry level position requires a basic understanding of a variety of firearms as well as a background in machining with mill and lathe. The Gunsmith will work directly with Design Engineers in design of prototype systems, parts and ideas which requires basic problem-solving skills for concept firearms, production guns and prototypes. FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interfaces with engineering personnel to assist in the development and prototyping of rifles or handguns.
- Build firearms from individual parts to a finished functioning firearm with hand tools.
- Function fire and determine rates of fire.
- Test fires firearms with proof loads to determine strength characteristics, correct alignment, and assembly of piece.
- Correct any issues or convey issues to design engineering.
- Understands load feeding, extracting, ejection mechanisms, gun assembly, and attaching accessories like grips, optical sights, and safety options.
- Able to troubleshoot function issues.
- Develop test processes and procedures.
- Working with Design Engineers or Product Development teams to report, troubleshoot, and fix problems or failures to improve or perfect the products.
- Able to fabricate fully functional firearms from engineering models and prototypes through conventional modeling methods (hand build skills, milling machine, lathe, etc.) using engineering prints / documents.
- Must have print reading skills.
- Understands gas operated firearms.
- Determining gas port sizes, troubleshoot any functional issues and assist in problem solving.
- Supports prototype assembly build plans, including any required overtime to accomplish on time delivery.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
- Participates in and sustains 5S.
- Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.

Education/Experience & Skills:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires Gunsmith training from an accredited course.
- 1+ years' experience as a gunsmith.
- 1+ years' experience machining with manual mill and lathe.
- Basic welding skills.
- Must be proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience using and maintaining firearms is preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be.
Working Conditions:
- Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
- Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
- Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
- The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping/squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
- Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
- Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
- Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
