Description

The Writing Specialist is responsible for implementing individualized academic support for Lawrenceville students facing academic challenges. This is a fully in-person position, as the essential functions of the role require direct, on-campus engagement with students, faculty, and staff.

The Specialist will work closely with the Educational Support team, teaching faculty, and academic advisors to provide students with individualized, evidence-based instructional strategies that align with the school's curriculum. The role requires building strong, in-person relationships with students and providing targeted learning opportunities to support their academic success.

Candidates must be able to work flexible hours to accommodate students' schedules. This includes both day and evening responsibilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person individual instruction to identified students in grammar and essay writing.
  • Conduct face-to-face meetings with students to assess and address their writing challenges, which requires real-time, on-campus interaction to ensure effective communication and student engagement.
  • Monitor and document student growth, sending weekly reports to students' academic advisors and the Director of Educational Support. These responsibilities necessitate on-campus presence for accurate and timely assessment.
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning environment through direct, in-person instruction, which is essential for student success.
  • Attend on-campus professional meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices in writing instruction and student support. Participation in these in-person meetings is critical to effective collaboration and alignment with institutional goals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably a Master's) in English, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of a variety of writing programs and instructional methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success in working with students with learning differences and/or academic challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google GSuite tools, as well as comfortable using technology and systems to document work with students.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Operate efficiently, learn, and adapt quickly. Ability to manage ambiguity and proactively find solutions.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This is a fully in-person role that requires on-campus presence.
  • Ability to lift and push up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be capable of using a visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard.
  • Uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
  • Required to talk, hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including on-campus evening support for students as needed.
