The Interdisciplinary Honors Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago seeks qualified candidates for an appointment as Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Humanities beginning Fall 2025. The thriving undergraduate Honors Program, first established in 1936, provides general education courses to the top ten percent of Loyola's undergraduates. The successful candidate will teach our first-year courses, which introduce students to a variety of texts, artifacts, and contexts from antiquity to today, including the fields of philosophy, theology, literature, and the arts. The lecturer will join the teaching team responsible for lecturing to our cohort of approximately 320 first-year students and will independently lead small discussion sections of twenty-five students or less. As part of this teaching assignment, they will be expected to accompany students in several cultural activities outside of class time (for example, plays, the opera, the symphony, the Art Institute of Chicago).

At the time of appointment, the candidate will hold a PhD in one of the humanities disciplines, including Classics, History, Literature, Philosophy, Theology, or the Arts. Especially welcome are candidates whose teaching and scholarly interests lie at the intersection of two or more of these disciplines. Candidates for the position must demonstrate clear potential for excellence in teaching and student mentorship. The candidate must be willing to support the mission of Loyola University Chicago and the goals of a Jesuit, Catholic education.

The anticipated salary range for this position is in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This salary range is for a nine-month academic appointment. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree; training; field or discipline; budget availability; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
