Description

Do you have excellent communication skills and a strong aptitude for hands-on work and problem-solving? If so, we'd love to have you join our team as a Shop Technician at our Colossal Media shop in Brooklyn, New York. In this role, you'll be an integral part of our operations, ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of our outdoor construction and maintenance processes. The Shop Technician plays a key role in supporting the team by performing installations, maintaining equipment, and ensuring safety standards are met. The purpose of the Shop Technician is to:



  • Serve as a support technician responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of shops, storage units, trucks, lifts, and rig equipment.
  • Proactively assist all departments with construction and maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist Shop Managers in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the shop, storage areas, walls, and trucks.
  • Support Shop Managers with inventory management of all paint supplies, ensuring proper processes are followed, and accurately diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing paint systems efficiently and with attention to quality.
  • Aid Shop Managers in training new hires in basic shop skills when applicable.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the shop as scheduled.
  • Professionally and confidently represent Colossal in all interactions.
  • Be available on-site or on-call during designated work hours, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Accurately document all work performed, including service logs, daily progress reports, inventory tracking, and shipping documentation.
  • Drive company vehicles to customer job sites within the designated region on a daily basis.
  • Assist with minor maintenance and repair tasks on grounds and facilities, including electrical work, carpentry, HVAC maintenance, and masonry repairs.
  • Support minor repairs on trucks, lifts, machinery, and equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, fluid refills, tire inspections, structural adjustments, and brake maintenance.
  • Contribute to minor electrical repairs and installations in the field as needed.
  • Assist with wood and steel fabrication projects.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records within the shop's system.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment and machinery to ensure production quality is upheld.
  • Inspect and count deliveries and stock upon arrival, checking for damage or missing items.


Requirements:

Education and experience:



  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A current and valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of OSHA 30 hour Construction course.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanic, maintenance.
  • Previous auto or lift mechanic experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working from suspended scaffolds preferred.


Knowledge, skill, and ability:



  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication skills; fluent in speaking and reading English.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude. Proficient in basic computer and smartphone applications, including internet navigation, Google, and Slack.
  • Adherence to Colossal safety standards and compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work from and transport ladders and tools to job sites.
  • Working knowledge of basic construction skills, techniques, and safety procedures.
  • Proficient in safely operating tools and equipment for outdoor construction and maintenance.
  • Comfortable working and climbing at heights.
  • Ability to document installations through photographs and written logs.
  • Practical math skills applicable to construction and operations. Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:



  • This position is spent equally indoors and outdoors, requiring the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and climb to heights up to 100 ft.
  • The physical demands for this position include heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds), extensive bending, pushing, reaching, seeing (with a focus on reading, color distinction, acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision), sitting less than 50% of the time, standing, stooping, talking, turning, walking, driving, and climbing.
  • Nights spent away from home traveling are less than 10%. On-call shifts may be required.
