LAB TECHNICIAN - QUALITY CONTROL

SUMMER INTERNSHIP

1st Shift M-F (8am - 4:30pm)

The Lab Technician - Quality Control Intern performs a variety of standard tests to determine physical and chemical properties of paint products for the Industrial, Aerospace and Defense markets.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Gathers batch samples from production floor and performs QC testing.
  • Evaluates batches for conformance to specifications by testing density, non-volatile solids, viscosity, pH, and various other tests.
  • Adjusts properties of individual batches within formulation guidelines. Will add raw materials to batches in tanks.
  • Completes housekeeping projects to enhance organization and cleanliness of lab
  • Maintains physical records of test results.
  • Documents and records all actions taken in preparation of product.
  • Records batch information in appropriate computer programs.
  • Maintains standards for housekeeping and safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education level required: High School Diploma and pursuing 4-year degree in Chemistry, Science, or related field.
  • Preferred experience level: One to three years' experience in a laboratory setting preferred (academic lab experience acceptable)
  • Working knowledge of basic math, percentages, and some algebra
  • Excellent computer skills and other office machinery
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent color vision
  • Excellent math skills including metric to standard conversions
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Excellent team building and communications skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and/or hear, stand and/or walk, use hands to finger, handle or touch objects or controls and move from place to place. The employee is regularly required to sit, balance, stoop, and occasionally reach above shoulders. The employee occasionally must use foot/feet to operate machinery, climb or balance and reach above the shoulders. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.

Personal Protection Equipment is required during various processes in the production facility. Safety shoes, glasses, respirators, fire retardant uniform and earplugs may be required when performing certain functions.
