ZooTeen Program Coordinator (Part-Time)
The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's ZooTeen Program engages youth ages 13 to 17 in hands-on experiences designed to build confident environmental stewards. We seek a dynamic and enthusiastic part-time ZooTeen Coordinator to join our team. This individual will have strong interpersonal skills (particularly with teens) and a passion for mentoring youth while promoting the Zoo's mission.
Position Details:
This is a permanent, year-round, part-time position with an average of 24 hours per week during our year-round season (September - April) and an average of 32 hours per week during our summer season (May - August), with a start date of late April to early May. The position offers an hourly wage of $15 per hour.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Serve as a trusted leader and decision maker for ZooTeen supervisors and ZooTeens, providing guidance and support while ensuring the success of the ZooTeen program.
  • Assist in leading ZooTeens and supervisors, supporting daily operations, including roll calls, reinforcing program culture, helping supervisors monitor ZooTeens' tasks, creating schedules, and responding to ZooTeen and guardian inquiries. Monitor communication channels and radio to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist in planning, facilitating, and supervising workshops, learning opportunities, community events, and conservation initiatives, both on Zoo grounds and off-site, ensuring a positive and engaging experience for all participants.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Experience or passion for youth programming and volunteer coordination.
  • Ability to engage and empower teens while fostering leadership and conservation values.
  • Comfortable handling a variety of ambassador animal species and training ZooTeens on handling standards, demonstrating excellent animal care, safety for all, and engaging presentation skills.
  • Highly capable of independently operating, proactively seeking out resources, and leading oneself in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Dedication to Cincinnati's Zoo mission, Core Values, and program areas.


Skills


  • Strong writing, communication, and public speaking skills, with the ability to effectively convey ideas to diverse audiences, both in writing and verbally.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines and independently manage multiple tasks and timely follow-through, with flexibility to adapt to changing needs and to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work and build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to use basic and some advanced functions of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook), the internet, and web-based forms
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and/or efficiently utilize volunteer management platforms, such as Better Impact, to track participation, schedule activities, and enhance communication.


Requirements:


  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver's license and eligibility for coverage under the fleet insurance policy.
  • Availability to work weekends regularly throughout both seasons.
  • Able to be on-site at the Zoo or off-site for event coordination.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Available for ZooTeen Orientations on May 17th & 18th
  • Available for Supervisor training the week of May 19th - 23rd.


Working Conditions: Employment is conditional on successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment drug & nicotine screen, background check, and negative TB test. While performing the duties of the job, the ZooTeen Program Coordinator is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, carry, and utilize manual dexterity to use a computer, mouse, and keyboard, as well as other office equipment. The Coordinator will likely be trained on Cincinnati Zoo Animal Ambassadors. .
