The Opportunity

The Commissioning Manager is responsible for managing commissioning activities across diverse brownfield and greenfield natural gas facility and pipeline projects. The Commissioning Manager will play a critical role in ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently and in compliance with Company standards and in alignment with industry best practices. This position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to manage complex field activities while coordinating with internal teams and external contract resources.

What you'll do

  • Provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure commissioning activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with Company standards and industry best practices

  • Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning strategies that optimize resources, schedules, and costs, ensuring high-quality project delivery across defined project scopes

  • Develop commissioning and start up and asset integration plans with detailed risk assessments and contingency strategies, in collaboration with cross-functional teams

  • Develop and continuously refine commissioning cost estimates, providing accurate monthly forecasts to support project financial planning and tracking

  • Develop and maintain commissioning schedules aligned with construction activities and progress, ensuring seamless integration with the overall project schedule

  • Monitor and enforce safety protocols during commissioning to ensure a safe working environment

  • Ensure commissioning activities meet quality standards and oversee the implementation of quality control measures

  • Proactively manage changes, resolve issues and develop contingency plans to minimize project risks

  • Lead contract commissioning resources through effective onboarding and manage their performance to ensure compliance with project and contract requirements

  • Ensure contractors adhere to the change management processes for proper documentation and approval of changes

  • Participate in design reviews to incorporate commissioning requirements into the project design and communicate input deliverables needed to begin commissioning activities (like cause-effect, control philosophies, P&IDs, purchase orders, safety plans, permits, and so on)

  • Facilitate project meetings with team members and stakeholders to plan commissioning and asset integration activities, address emerging issues, communicate progress and keep the project on track

  • Oversee Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and pre-commissioning activities to ensure systems meet required specifications and functional requirements

  • Facilitate the procurement of spare parts for the project through cross functional collaboration

  • Manage and validate the Green Tag Turnover process to ensue systems are ready for dry commissioning

  • Oversee dry commissioning activities (prior to introduction of process fluids) to verify system functionality and equipment readiness

  • Oversee wet commissioning activities to ensure system performance, integrity, and safe operation under live process conditions

  • Maintain and manage punch lists, ensuring all items are addressed prior to handoff to Operations

  • Participate in pre- and post-startup safety reviews (PSSRs) to ensure system meets safety and operational requirements

  • Ensure the commissioning team is collects and verifies equipment data, supporting accurate asset management

  • Facilitate operations training to ensure they can operate and maintain newly installed equipment and ensure all training is properly documented

  • Ensure drawings are up to date, reflect actual installations, and ensure that any discrepancies identified during commissioning are redlined and accurately incorporated into the as-built drawings

  • Actively participate in both internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations

  • Oversee documentation of commissioning activities, punch items, turnover packages, and all other relevant documentation in compliance with company requirements

  • Participate in Lessons Learned sessions and document best practices and opportunities for improvement

  • Keep Manager of Commissioning informed of project progress, key risks and escalate critical issues as needed

  • Assist in driving program and continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 10+ years of direct commissioning and project execution experience in natural gas facility and pipeline projects

  • Proven capability to manage commissioning activities on large, complex projects, through effective contractor oversight and proactive issue resolution

  • Proficient in MS Project and MS Office for schedule management and reporting

  • Experienced in at least one Completions Management Software (Smart Completions, Omega 365, or equivalent)

  • Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (or equivalent)

  • Engineering and Construction Project Management experience is a plus

  • Proven track record of improving commissioning processes and developing best practices.

This position requires candidates to:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
