TITLE: Building Project Engineer DUTIES: Oversee building enclosure and civil work activities on building construction projects, including review of design documents, submittals, RFI's, schedules, and work progress in the field while assuring that project scope, cost, and schedule are being met. Provide review of design documents during their development and prior to bidding. Monitor construction work in the field by building and civil contractors. Provide input and analysis on value engineering ideas to reduce project scope and cost. Provide technical support to project staff to resolve field issues. Review project submittals and coordinate response with A/E firms. Assist in the resolution of questions from contractors, (i.e., interpreting the meaning and intent of drawings and specs,) and submitting/tracking RFIs. Work with the project team to develop, provide oversight, and ensure adherence to the project schedule. Coordinate with other disciplines the project installation, delivery, and schedule. Conduct building/civil package construction coordination meetings. Assist in developing work scopes and pricing breakdowns for all building/civil bid packages. Coordinate contractor's interferences prior to commencement of construction activities. Attend construction meeting and perform constructability reviews. Review change orders against project scope. Coordinate with value analysis review of project bulletins. Review and approve monthly construction invoicing. Prepare financial status reports to project executive leadership. Review open book contractor rates and mark-ups for adherence to contractual documents. Review construction contractual documents and provide feedback to Purchasing team. Perform on-site safety reviews with Contractor Safety Leads and applicable STLA agents, such as insurance providers. Monitor the quality of work, so that it is in accordance with the design drawings and specifications. Issue progress updates and prepare presentations for upper management. Evaluate completion of the contractors work and assist in punch-list creation and close-out. Provide review of final close-out documentation. Document problems found and provide lessons learned for continuous improvement. Review monthly invoicing. Up to 20%-40% Domestic and International travel required. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (or foreign academic equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Engineering/Management or related and 3 years of experience in job offered or related. Experience must include: building systems installation; building systems design, including schematic design and the creation of construction documents; experience with construction site project management, including construction bidding/procurement, cost/change management, and scheduling; experience working with lean manufacturing and lean construction concepts; experience reading and understanding construction drawings and specifications.
