R&D Associate Chemist

The Aerosol Lab is looking for an Associate Chemist to lead and support new product development and line maintenance. The Associate Chemist will be responsible for creating project plans and communicating with marketing, operations and R&D personnel to drive projects to completion.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access to confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Company's staff, employees, and business relationships.

1. Lab Support/Product Development
* Accountable for contributing to the reformulation, development, maintenance, enhancement and assessment of products through planning, executing and analysis of experiments with clear and accurate results. This includes processing and adherence to sound economic advantages.
* Accountable for the solution of moderately challenging technical problems (product/process) and demonstrating knowledge and safe use of chemicals, raw materials, substrates, and instruments.
* Designs and executes experiments, checks for color acceptance, compares competitor projects, compares new to old projects, completes scale ups, performs basic paint processes, creates/matches target colors, participates in designs of experiments, makes pilot batches, maintains and orders supplies, and performs ladder studies.
* Accountable for providing timely and accurate support to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development efforts and competitive product analysis.
* Follows standards of excellence by following ITM's (Institutional Test Methods) and ICM's (Institutional Calibration Methods)

2. Communication
* Gives daily updates to manager/group leader
* Translates scientific data/results at a level appropriate to an audience that may be in a group setting and a variety of cultural backgrounds by communicating with all internal departments, management, marketing, plants, technical centers, product planning, stores, suppliers, customers, committees, project groups, control and regional labs, and vendors.
* Gives group presentations, project related/update presentations and special request presentations.
* Leads project related meetings, sales meetings, team meetings, and weekly meetings; and gives stage-gate reviews
* Communicates detailed ideas concisely through written communication, by writing tracking reports, analytical reports, biweekly reports, marketing updates, stage-gate reviews, 6-sigma reports, design profiles, project plans, quarterly audits and completing tracking sheets
* Attends committee meetings, customer, department, group, impromptu, ISO, marketing, performance reviews, project updates, town hall, quality, team, vendor, special request, and safety meetings, and attends in-house and outside seminars
* Has obtained a small network of resources, but may still need manager's advice on where to go when an issue arises

3. Safety
* Complies with, and displays knowledge of, all safety and security regulations
* Maintains a clean work area
* Maintain the proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
* Accountable for following chemical hygiene plan and safe laboratory practices

4. Operations Support
* Supports operations through raw material evaluation, opportunity rex database, test-batch database, flawless launch database or equivalents, and regulatory compliance.

BASIC QUALIFICATION:
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).

FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
* Must have a bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics ("STEM") field

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
* Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities
* Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
* Ability to interface with different business units to satisfy customer requests
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
* Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis
* Excellent organization and planning skills

Preferred:
* Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
* High level of initiative and leadership ability

Upon completion of construction, the individual selected for this role will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. Construction is expected to be complete in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at 4440 Warrensville Center Rd, Warrensville Heights, OH 44128.
