Summary of Job Duties:The Assistant Director for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) will provide training/supervision for graduate students and provide training and supervision for CAPS clinicians who are doctoral and/or master's level counselors seeking full licensure within the Assistant Director's discipline (LPC) in the state of Arkansas. The Assistant Director will assist in executive decision making and strategic planning as part of the CAPS executive team and will evaluate and supervise CAPS clinicians, including those embedded across campus locations, and will assume the duties of the CAPS Associate Director and/or Director in their absence.

The Assistant Director will provide clinical services including crisis management, individual, group, and couples therapy, assessment, and case disposition/referral services, participate on CAPS and PWHC committees, assist with students of concern in association with the CAPS Director, the Office of the Dean of Students, and others in the Division of Student Affairs in the absence of the Associate Director or Director. The Assistant Director will actively participate in university-wide mental health prevention, intervention, and post-vention efforts and consult with concerned students, faculty, staff, and parents regarding student mental health issues. The Assistant Director will engage in professional activities at the local, regional, and/or national level with an emphasis on active engagement in relevant professional organizations which directly support the component area of the organization.

This position holds significant responsibility as a "remote essential" role. In challenging situations such as inclement weather or emergencies, when the Pat Walker Health Center or campus needs to close, our dedicated team of CAPS professionals will be on standby to serve our campus community's needs through telehealth if deemed appropriate for telehealth services.

The decision to continue with telehealth sessions will depend on various factors, including the nature of the mental health concern, client preference, and the availability of resources. Our primary goal is to ensure that the UA community has access to quality mental healthcare even during unexpected closures.

To be fully prepared for such events, all staff members must take their UA issued laptops home nightly during the work week and each weekend. This way, they can readily assist with client access and telehealth services if CAPS is unexpectedly closed during the following business day. By functioning cohesively as a team, CAPS staff will ensure that counseling services remain accessible to our UA community with each team member sharing this responsibility equally.
