As a Service Technician, you are required to be the most knowledgeable personnel within the service department; often supporting and assisting engineers to solve complex problems. The Service Technician is also responsible for the daily workflow of the service department, including proper parts stocking levels. The Service Technician is tasked with repairing the most challenging and time-sensitive problems that vehicles have when they arrive at the service department. The Service Technician also may spend much of their time diagnosing and repairing unusual problems, rather than conducting more routine vehicle service or simple repairs.
Technical Project Support - (100%)
- Conferring with AV engineers, test specialists and operators to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems, and to discuss the work to be performed and future repair requirements.
- Supports AV engineers, test specialists and operators for all In-Use and Special Project related activities, including certification vehicle updates, vehicle fleet maintenance/repairs, customer vehicle check-in/inspections and any part replacements as needed.
- Tests vehicles in order to diagnose problems and confirm repairs and/or to determine drivability issues as needed.
- Communicates diagnostic results and proposes solutions to technical problems, including complete documentation and reporting of all findings.
- Inspecting vehicles to determine wear and extent of damage or malfunctions.
- Assisting in developing new test procedures and communicating them to the team in appropriate format including slide decks, sheets or documents.
- Match employees with specific tasks based on their skill or expertise, create and post work schedules and update workers about schedule changes and deadlines.
- Scheduling vehicles for service, receiving vehicle information and following all prescribed documentation procedures.
- Estimating the time needed to do the repair, taking into account the vehicle's schedule.
- Train and mentor new employees.
- Supports AV engineers, test specialists and with technical, mechanical and logistical needs, as necessary.
- Testing and adjusting repaired systems to meet manufacturers' performance specifications.
- Efficiently manages fluctuating workload to address tasks based on project need.
- Orders parts as needed or requested.
- Maintains appearance of function of workshop area according to corporate guidelines.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Years of Relevant Experience:
- 7+ years of automotive experience
Education - Required:
- High School Diploma or certificate in Automotive Technology with equivalent experience
- Master Technician Certification
- Successful completion of an automotive training program in a National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF)-certified
Education - Desired:
- ASE Master Certification
- Volkswagen Audi Technical Training
- Extensive Volkswagen and/or Audi product knowledge
- Experience with VW/Audi diagnostic tools & equipment programs
Skills:
- Ability to work well independently and with minimal supervision
- Communication skills - interpersonal and written
- Computer savvy - skilled in the use of software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Demonstrates flexibility to work under pressure and multi-task
- Problem solving and results driven
- Excellent teamwork ability
- Highly motivated self-starter with high bias for action
- Experience with and/or working understanding of international cooperation and cultural differences
Specialized Skills - Required:
- Experience using Volkswagen corporate diagnostics products
- Volkswagen and/or Audi diagnostic experience
- Knowledge of analysis equipment (Volkswagen diagnostic tools)
- Highly organized and dependable
- Certified for electric vehicle repairs
Specialized Skills - Desired:
- Master level Volkswagen or Audi training certification
- Experience at VW dealership or experience with VW platform preferred
- Formal Customer Service Training
- Extensive Volkswagen and/or Audi diagnostic experience including VAS testers
- ASE Master / Volkswagen or Audi certification
- Metal and Electrical fabrication and modification skills - Ability to weld, machine, drill, bend, and form metals and plastics
Work Flexibility:
- Ready and able to travel (international and domestic) to remote offices, training facilities or other testing cities if the opportunity arises
- Ability to adhere to a flexible work schedule during the daytime hours of 7:00am - 4:00pm CST (schedule subject to change with proper notice given)
- Occasional extended hours required to meet program deadlines
- Must be available to contact colleagues at other locations in differing time zones
- Must have a valid driver's license with good DMV record
