About the role The Director of Compensation is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of the company's compensation strategies and programs. The role requires in-depth knowledge of compensation policies, benefits, market trends, and legal requirements. The Director will ensure that compensation practices align with the organization's overall goals, fostering a culture of fairness and performance-based rewards. Work Location: Morristown, NJ Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days in office 2 days from home) What you will do:
- Compensation Strategy Development: Develop and execute compensation strategies that support the company's business objectives, promote employee retention, and ensure competitive pay practices.
- Market Analysis: Analyze industry compensation trends and benchmark data to ensure the company's compensation structure remains competitive.
- Policy and Program Management: Oversee the design, implementation, and management of compensation programs, including base pay, bonus structures, stock options, and incentive programs.
- Salary Structure Development: Create and maintain salary structures and guidelines for all job levels within the organization to ensure internal equity and external competitiveness.
- Budget Management: Manage compensation budgets, forecasting future compensation expenses, and making recommendations for cost-effective and performance-driven compensation solutions.
- Employee Communication: Educate employees and management about compensation policies, programs, and practices.
- Collaboration with Leadership: Partner with senior management and HR leadership to align compensation strategies with company goals and business needs.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure compensation programs comply with federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations (e.g., Fair Labor Standards Act, Equal Pay Act, etc.).
- Data Analytics: Use compensation analytics and reporting tools to track compensation trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and provide insights to senior leadership.
- Employee Engagement and Retention: Work with HR and leadership to ensure compensation strategies are aligned with employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master's or certifications like CCP preferred).
- 7-10 years of experience in compensation, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of compensation programs, salary structures, market benchmarking, and related HR functions.
- In-depth knowledge of labor laws and compensation regulations.
- Proficiency in compensation software, HRIS systems, and data analytics tools.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to think strategically, analyze data, and make decisions based on financial and market insights.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Understanding of Long-Term and Short-Term Incentive Plans: Knowledge and experience in developing, implementing, and managing both long-term and short-term incentive compensation plans (e.g., performance-based bonuses, stock options, restricted stock units).
- IPO Experience: Experience with compensation planning and structuring in the context of an Initial Public Offering (IPO), including stock options and executive compensation programs related to public companies.
- Bonus Structures: Expertise in designing, implementing, and evaluating bonus structures (e.g., annual bonuses, performance bonuses, sales commissions) that align with business goals and employee motivation.
- Compensation Sales Planning: Experience in creating and managing compensation plans for sales teams, including commission structures, performance incentives, and sales quotas.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with executive compensation and equity-based programs.
- Knowledge of global compensation practices.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with various teams such as HR, Finance, and Legal.
