JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for maintaining adequate supply of purchased materials to support manufacturing operations. Yearly spend could exceed $50M. This role has broad responsibilities including but not limited to supplier selection, price negotiation, purchase order placement, expediting, and determining ordering and material flow strategies from source to point of use. The role will work with the sourcing team when dealing with critical suppliers.

This position is exposed to all levels of management, both at the local level as well as the supplier level, to deliver year-over-year improvements in material cost, quality, availability and inventory. It is crucial that the sourcing analyst develop an in-depth understanding of supplier capabilities in the marketplace. Analysis and control of the inventory and supplier base of plant, to ensure effective delivery of quality materials to maintain production schedules in a cost-effective manner while leveraging strategic supplier relations and ensuring sustainable competitive advantage by owning the supplier development and qualification processes.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze SAP MRP (stock status) and place purchase orders to meet the production requirements of the plant. Expedite materials as needed to meet production need dates.
  • Work independently or with strategic sourcing team to negotiate with suppliers for lower pricing, better payment terms, yearly rebates, etc.
  • Work with supply chain and manufacturing engineering to determine and set SAP parameters to ensure lowest total cost of ownership. This includes minimum buys, rounding values, reorder points, safety stocks, etc.
  • Identify the optimum flow path for each material from supplier to point-of-use to ensure minimum number of material touches.
  • Own the on hand inventory levels for assigned parts to ensure material availability while achieving inventory turns targets.
  • Take a professional and disciplined approach to working with suppliers ensuring transparency, consistency and fairness. Implement and support compliance to standards, and minimize risk and cost exposure. Share and review forecast requirements and resolve design, delivery, quality, and cost of materials problems.
  • Monitor and review the price, delivery and quality of incoming materials to maintain a dependable and high performing supplier base.
  • Correct, change and approve invoices for payment.
  • Assist marketing, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and others in the selection of components and suppliers to meet the production and MRO needs of the corporation.
  • Assure appropriate adjustments and credits are processed with suppliers involving the replacement of materials not conforming to purchase specifications.
  • Analyze usage and requirement patterns for parts having a lead-time greater than our information cycle to assure future deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory to coordinate new materials and prevent obsolescence and excess inventory amounts.
  • Design and implement sourcing strategies to attain year over year material cost reduction, material quality/delivery improvements and inventory reduction targets using appropriate supply chain tools.
  • Works with engineering and quality to develop new suppliers with systems to support quick development, low cost and high quality.
  • Lead the initiative to own the supplier relationship for the major suppliers in the areas of responsibilities.
  • Works with confidential data and must be prudent in its use of interpretation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • A strong understanding of MRP systems, SAP preferred
  • Strategic planning and thinking skills, coupled with analytical and execution skills are critical
  • An excellent team player with strong people skills; able to build relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to analyze a variety of products, technical requirements, delivery needs and financial ramifications of stocking, purchasing, delivery, and storing of materials for the corporation's need
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal (logical and organized), written, listening and presentation

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in materials supply chain management, engineering, business or similar field

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Six Sigma Certification
  • Quality Experience
  • APICS Certification

Physical Demands

Must able to lift 15 lbs. Be on the production floor 15% of the time and walk across plant multiple times per day

Working Conditions

Office and manufacturing facility. Approx. 15% of time on production floor.
