Job Summary

The Associate Director of Musical Theater will provide leadership and direction for 92NY's Musical Theater Department, which offers musical theater classes and performance opportunities for children and adults, a professional musical theater performance series for young audiences and educational outreach programs. Responsibilities include the continual development and implementation of engaging and innovative programs, for children, as well as managing a full-time Program Associate, faculty members and strategic partnerships to make the Musical Theater Department successful.



Job Responsibilities Include

    Responsible for recruiting, leading, motivating and performance management of Program Associate, part-time faculty and staff.
  • Communicate with patrons and educators about upcoming productions, Educational Outreach opportunities and other events.
  • Organize and coordinate auditions with casting directors for professional productions.
  • Organize and maintain costuming, including laundry after each TYA show and costume upkeep, wig maintenance, and everyspruce inventory
  • Create schedules for rehearsals and performances, tracking space requests and reservations in room scheduling software.
  • Execute season load, web review and work with marketing on promotional materials for all productions.
  • Generate and submit room and theater set-up requests for all Theater for Young Audience programming.
  • Prepare rehearsal space for each rehearsal (including set up of props and costumes)
  • Provide rehearsal and performance notes. Take note of all rehearsal blocking in stagewright, upload rehearsal videos to google drive.
  • Assist in the creation of programs and educational material for each TYA production.
  • Responsible for department operational tasks including processing of invoices, preparing, and submitting payroll, maintaining of school and office supplies and submission of maintenance requests.


Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • Bachelors degree in Musical Theater, Theater Education, dance or dance education, or equivalent experience; Dance Education Laboratory Certificate preferred.
  • 4+ years management experience within a successful dance or theater school.
  • 5+ years teaching experience.
  • An existing active network and strong working relationships with members of the professional Theater and Theater education communities is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills accompanied by a strong proficiency in the use Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated project management experience with the proven ability to manage balance and meet multiple deadlines and manage student productions, staff and budgets.
  • Expertise in early childhood education a plus.

Work Hours and Environment

40 hours/week. Evening and weekend flexibility for programming events.

Compensation Range

$65,000 - $75,000

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
