About the Role:
As a Specialist Finance Accounting, you will be responsible for being a trusted advisor to a broad range of Finance and non-Finance stakeholders to ensure that accounting outcomes best reflect underlying commercial aspects and that they comply with Woodside Accounting Policy requirements. You will be responsible for coaching your peers to uplift their accounting skills and knowledge through targeted training and practical application of ad hoc and business as usual issues which have judgmentalaspects.
You will be responsible for proactive delivery of timely and accurate advice, including the preparation of technical accounting papers as necessary, to support complex issues and transactions in the business. You will be responsible for ensuring that the application of accounting policies comply with the Group's Accounting Interpretations, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and industry practice. In this position, you will need to be able to consider commercial and practical outcomes while ensuring that outcomes comply with accounting and reporting requirements. The role will require you to provide accounting advice to the business, manage relationships with key stakeholders, coordinate local, regional and group deliverables, and provide governance and stewardship of accounting activities to ensure the integrity of financial results.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage the timely delivery of the trial balance review by working very closely with the shared services finance teams.
- Manage accounting processes for closure and rehabilitation provision, onerous contracts and first oil/gas, including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOx) requirements for these processes.
- Coordinate the audit process with external auditors ensuring international reporting meets the requests for information by being a conduit between the external auditor and the stakeholders from different areas within the business.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors for review and testing of internal controls, provide information and address queries.
- Manage the preparation of good quality and timely accounting treatment papers to support complex and judgmental accounting matters considered by the Group Accounting Policy team. This requires working directly with the business, and the Local and the Regional Finance teams to both understand the accounting matters in depth in order to balance business, practical and compliance requirements.
- Work closely with the Local, Group and shared services finance teams in the implementation of Group initiatives, ensuring alignment with Group policies and accounting interpretations.
- Ensure that the controls in place to monitor financial transactions are correctly recorded in compliance with Group policies and accounting interpretations.
- Investigate and analyze business initiatives or proposals to identify accounting requirements and risks to address prior to implementation.
- Support accounting processes to ensure strict adherence to internal accounting guidelines and controls.
- Identify & implement process improvement opportunities.
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years' working experience.
- Accounting experience within the oil and gas or resources industries beneficial.
- Demonstrated strong financial accounting experience, including IFRS knowledge.
- Strong governance focus with desired previous exposure to SOX and internal or external audit.
- Experience in accounting policy application and accounting standards implementation.
- Experience with a financial ERP system, preferably SAP Hana, would be beneficial.
- Business acumen, commercial mindset and ability to understand operational aspects.
- Good attention to detail, analytical and investigative skills, ability to manage deadlines.
- Good communication skills and strong stakeholder engagement, ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with teams and stakeholders.
