Paid Internship (2025) Westervelt Ecological Services Sacramento, California About us: Westervelt Ecological Services (WES) specializes in the restoration and conservation of wetlands, streams, and endangered species habitats in the form of conservation and mitigation projects that provide environmental mitigation and habitat services to landowners, businesses, government agencies, and land trusts throughout the state of California. Description: WES is seeking a highly motivated environmental planner intern to support our Entitlement and Ecology teams in the development of mitigation projects. The ideal candidate will be accountable, detail-oriented, organized, have excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills, strong computer proficiency, comfortable working outdoors, and work collaboratively in a team environment. The intern will work alongside experienced conservation planners, habitat designers, ecologists, land managers, and GIS analysts to assist in the development of mitigation projects. The intern will have exposure to and gain experience with various technical reports; CEQA documentation; local, state, and federal permitting requirements and application processes; regional conservation programs; wildlife and plant ecology; and GIS methods and tools. The intern will also have opportunities to visit existing and proposed mitigation sites, conduct biological surveys, and attend project meetings to better understand the planning, implementation, and long-term stewardship of our mitigation projects. This position is expected to be a part-time summer internship; however, there may be flexibility to extend the hours or duration as reasonably discussed. Work schedules will be adjustable to the needs of projects and intern availability. Responsibilities of this position may include: Interpret and record data. Conduct research and analyses. Contribute to environmental documents and permitting processes. Perform field surveys and monitoring tasks on WES properties. Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member. Qualifications: Applicants must be actively enrolled in an Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Ecology, Biological Sciences, or other related program at an accredited college.
