Job Overview:
The Material Planner (Buyer) plays a vital role in ensuring timely delivery of materials to support production operations by managing material planning activities from placing purchase orders, follow up with suppliers to deliver product to production assembly lines and/or service parts. Has a direct impact on ensuring the plant has access to the inputs, materials, goods, and services it needs for its current and future operations. Plans engineering change and coordinates into production when appropriate. Provides other support to production and management as required.
Responsibilities:
Planning
- Schedule production work order to meet demand
- Analyze material and capacity availability to provide customer promise dates for sales orders.
- Ensure optimal inventory levels and safety stock are maintained for their parts.
- Maintain proactive shortage identification and management - help flag root causes & corrective actions.
- Analyze and select parts for Kanban and Supplier replenishment.
- Ensure that Exception Messages (Expedites/De-Expedites/Cancels) are managed regularly and consistently to ensure that the delivery and inventory needs of the business are met.
Buying
- Perform timely, cost-conscious procurement of production/inventory/MRO items.
- Analyze requisitions to determine quantity, specifications, and delivery requirements.
- Recommend and select suppliers to fulfill scheduled plant deliveries from approved supplier list.
- Ensure that all procedures relating to PO approvals / Level of Authority / documentation / archiving are followed.
- Placing purchase orders to meet demand
General
- Maintain and continuously evaluate supplier performance and escalate to Supply chain when issues occur.
- Resolve invoicing discrepancies with suppliers and accounting.
- Communicate forecasts and replenishment plans to supplier.
- Coordinate with Quality Assurance/Supplier Management to resolve quality issues with suppliers.
- Interface with required functional groups to resolve challenging delivery requirements.
- Maintains item master lead time information based upon process improvements, current constraints, and total current demand by product family, and priority information.
- May lead and direct others to accomplish desired organizational objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred. Will consider 4+ years of experience rather than a degree.
- Ability to work in high variety, low volume build to configuration manufacturing environment
- Ability to handle and resolve complex problems on a regular basis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- 3+ years of purchasing experience within a production /manufacturing environment
- 3+ years of experience in negotiating capabilities with suppliers
- Proven track record of hitting cost reduction targets and project implementation
- 2+ years of experience with MRP/ERP, JIT, Kanban or similar
Core Competencies:
- Statistical/Analytical background and strong skills in spreadsheets, etc.
- Analytical problem solver and data-driven decision-making abilities
- Ability to work in a fast paced, task-focused environment
Preferences:
- Purchasing or Material Certifications and/or membership
- Knowledge with JDE, Oracle, QAD or similar ERP systems
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
This position will be onsite in Mooresville, NC with occasional remote work.
