Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) - Hybrid Ortho Surgery

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Hand & Upper Extremity is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at Froedtert Hospital, Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital, OSSC.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the outpatient services as a member of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
  • Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
  • Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
  • Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders
  • Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
  • Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
  • Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
  • Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
  • Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
  • Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
  • Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
  • Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
  • Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Preferred Schedule: Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs. Monday thru Friday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Preferred Experience: Previous Orthopaedic experience preferred

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Minimum Requirements: *or eligible

Advanced Practice Nurse

Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner

  • Wisconsin RN license
  • Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
  • Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
  • Certification as Adult Care NP and/or Family Practice NP preferred
  • Will consider certification as Acute Care NP
  • AHA BCLS
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire

Physician Assistant

  • Wisconsin PA license
  • Certification by NCCPA
  • AHA BCLS
  • CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
