Hours for this role are a 0.5 FTE and requires the ability to work evenings and weekends


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Standards & Ethics: Uphold the highest standards for the practice of Recreational Therapy and adhere to the Recreational Therapy Code of Ethics, as well as PrairieCare's policies and procedures.
  • Supervision & Mentorship: Provide guidance and supervision for Recreational Therapy students, fostering their development and ensuring quality care.
  • Group Leadership: Plan, lead, and facilitate engaging Recreational Therapy and therapeutic groups as directed by the Residential Clinical Supervisor, creating an inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
  • Individual Interventions: Collaborate with patients to develop personalized recreational therapy interventions that cater to their unique needs and interests, promoting autonomy and self-expression.
  • Training & Development: Lead training sessions for new hires and provide ongoing group facilitation training for Residential Counselors, ensuring a well-prepared and knowledgeable team.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrate an understanding of gender, cultural differences, and age-appropriate care, ensuring that all therapeutic activities are respectful and relevant to the diverse populations we serve.

Qualifications

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist requires graduation from an accredited program of Recreational Therapy, and certification from NCTRC.
  • Receives job training by consultation with the RT staff and other therapists, completion of ongoing in-service and orientation programs, and attendance of off-site continuing education programs as approved by management
  • Student field placement in psycho-social RT is strongly preferred for newly graduated candidates
  • Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potentially emergency situations
  • Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances
  • After training, be able to manage disruptive and explosive patients.

Pay range for this position is $24 to $27 depending on education and experience.
