JOB SUMMARY

This position develops and maintains expert level skills in testing of power transformer. Performs low voltage tests like ratio, Doble, megger, HV dielectric testing like impulse, applied voltage, induce, loss measurement, sound test and SFRA.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receive assignments and instructions from supervisor, both verbal and written, and obtain shop documents and prints
  • Read and understand schedule and work flow requirements
  • Get materials from storage or queuing areas, and complete kits with hardware and parts
  • Be able to read, understand and follow guidelines set forth by E.I.'s, M.P.'s, O.I.C.'s and drawings when performing assigned work
  • Do work and keep records in accordance with ISO 9000 registration requirements
  • Assemble components in accordance with established standards
  • Inspect assemblies, product, processes, and materials for conformance to design criteria, applicable specifications, and inspection procedures
  • May work in Med Power, Large Power or EHV product lines
  • To perform fabrication repairs and machine maintenance
  • Weld components with appropriate techniques and repair if defective
  • Keep tools, equipment and work area clean and orderly. Visually check equipment for normal operation Verify lifts and cranes before use (crane cable & limit switches)
  • Perform minor equipment repairs and machine maintenance
  • Use SFLC system accurately. Punch in and out. Make and end of shift review of the days' time, and necessary corrections such as closing gaps, or changing NCRs & DMs to the correct indirect accounts
  • Write maintenance work orders
  • Ability to look up NC's
  • Perform work in other departments
  • Follow all safety procedures and policies of the company
  • Train peers as required to support team production requirements
  • Investigate potential and actual non-conformances, and recommend corrective action

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Portable scaffold and steps, ladders, radial and band saw, vacuum cleaner, hydraulic jacks, threading machine, hi-press crimpers, grinder, stud gun, hand drill, pneumatic wrenches, mallet, sledge, pry bars, blocks, wire stripper, hand crimper, overhead jib crane, chains, slings, vacuum pumps, forklift truck, air bearings
  • Various machine operations including shear, punch, lathe, grinder, radial drill and others. Submerged Arc (SAW), Stick Welding (SMAW), MIG Welding (GMAW), Oxyacetylene Torches, Plasma Cutting, Air Arc Gouging, Brazing, Stud Welding, and TIG (GTAW) equipment
  • Materials used in this position include tank, cover, current transformers, tap changers, gear assemblies, oil gauges, pressure gauge, cabinets, housings, bushings, operating mechanisms, finished transformers, flanges, lightning arrestors, wood, steel rod, nitrogen and others. Breaker stands, breaker poles, breaker C.T.'s, galvanized steel beams, & SF6 gas
  • Often works at heights up to 15' or more and occasionally works at heights up to 30' or more.
  • Work varies from working at ground level to working in, on top of, and around the sides of the transformer unit
  • Operations require mental and visual concentration to ensure compliance with engineering and quality specifications
  • Position requires hand and eye coordination to make adequate welds meeting various welding specifications for in plant certification, if welding
  • Must have the ability to access and work in confined spaces, which includes 18-24" manhole access.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Education / Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

* Plant Supervision, Quality, Planning, etc.

* Engineering Organization, including mechanical, electrical and manufacturing engineering groups

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand for extended periods. Must be able to occasionally sit, walk. Climb, balance, push, pull, carry, work below waist level and foot use.

Working Conditions

Shop-floor located on large manufacturing plant.
