The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Airport Operations Supervisor.

The Aviation Department which operates the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry Airport is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Airport Operations Supervisor. This is administrative and supervisory work in managing the overall operation of a functional area within the Aviation Operations Division. Work may involve responsibility for planning, coordinating and managing the operation of the Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC), Terminal, Landside, and Airfield within Operations sections of a County airport. Employees in this class supervise and train subordinates engaged in airport operations and inspections, and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and County rules, regulations, and procedures. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment in planning and implementing operational procedures related to the assigned section, and is reviewed through conferences and written reports. Duties include working rotating shifts and assignments, including holidays and weekends. Work requires communication with the public, airport tenants, foreign, Federal, State, local government, and other agencies.
All Aviation Department employees must possess the ability to interact courteously with the public, Airport vendors, contractors, and fellow employees to maintain a professional work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Airport Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
(Two years of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
(One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.)
Requires four (4) years in airport operations work including one (1) year lead work/supervisory experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
- Must possess a valid Florida driver's license during employment and maintain authority to drive on County business.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge and a Customs and Border Protection seal, and non-movement or movement area driving privileges.
Preferences

AAAE certification or accreditation (ACE, CM, AAAE) -
Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Airport Management, Business Administration, or closely related field.
Per the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part 1542, all airport employees must undergo a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and a Security Threat Assessment (STA) to obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge, as required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Provide overall supervision and direct subordinates in monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures involving airport safety, security, daily operations, appearance, etc. Schedules and conducts inspections, briefings and receives reports or electronic media through subordinates. Responds to airport emergencies, directs use of Aviation Department resources, coordinates with emergency responders, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and other agencies. Staffing of incident unified command and Airport emergency operations center. Directs subordinate personnel in support of incident command function during emergencies. Develops, coordinates and implements operating procedures related to the routine and emergency operation of the assigned specialized area. Performs research and prepares reports as requested on legislation, rules, operational policies/procedures and other factors having an impact on airport operations. Issues notices of violations and/or citations for non-compliance with airport rules and regulations, Chapter 2, 8 and 22 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances. Assists division management in implementing and maintaining currency in operations manuals, emergency plans, ground transportation plans, training programs, standard operating procedures and other publications utilized by the Aviation Department. Assists with the administration of contracts assigned to airport operations. Ability to supervise the work of employees performing operational functions in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale. Ability to lead and motivate the staff performing operational functions by creating an environment that fosters employee participation and a high level of productivity. Ability to interact with command-level personnel of police, fire, air carriers, and federal agencies. Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in establishing, applying, and interpreting policies and procedures. Ability to implement administrative programs and procedures and to evaluate their effectiveness. Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in decision making. May act as the Airport Manager in their absence. Performs related work as required.

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of electronic office equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
