Assistant Professor on the Educator Track, Clinical Director , SON Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Program - Georgetown University Medical Center Georgetown University: Medical Center: School of Nursing Location: St. Mary's 4th Floor Open Date: Mar 21, 2025 Deadline: Jun 01, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description Qualifications A. Education 1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; earned baccalaureate degree in nursing. 2. Graduate of an accredited program of nurse anesthesia. 3. Holds a minimum of a doctorate degree. 4. Has a minimum of two years of experience as a nurse anesthetist. 5. Has current and appropriate preparation in administration, instruction; and the educational process. B. Expertise 1. Maintains current and valid District of Columbia licensure as a professional registered nurse and nurse anesthetist. 2. Meets requirements and maintains recertification by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. 3. Demonstrates ability to instruct and provide students with knowledge of principles and theory of anesthesia, equipment and techniques. 4. Remains current in theories and methods of instruction by: a. Current membership in the AANA; b. Review of current anesthesia literature; c. Attendance at state, local and national meetings; Maintaining professional clinical privileges and practice of anesthesia Core Responsibilities of Assistant Professors in the DNAP Program 1. Teaching Responsibilities a. Provides lectures in multiple DNAP courses and teaches in the simulation and cadaver labs. These lectures and labs are assigned in the semester planning meetings by the Program Director with input from the course coordinators and the DNAP faculty team. b. Provides test bank questions related to lecture material for both oral and written examinations. c. Serve as course coordinator of various DNAP courses as assigned by Program Director (usually 1-2 courses per semester). i. Coordinate the course schedule and develop/manage the Canvas course site. ii. Prepare and administer all course examinations after verification that all lecturers have updated question banks. iii. Notifies the Program Director and Assistant Program Director with any student academic concerns in a timely manner. iv. Issues mid-semester advisories for students achieving less than an 80% in course work. d. Grades oral exams each semester for each DNAP course as scheduled by the course coordinator. e. Holds regular office hours. f. Document all tutoring activities (including exam reviews, office hours, and review sessions) on the tutor log in Box. 2. Administrative Responsibilities a. Participates in activities directed at maintaining program accreditation under the direction of the Program Director. b. Follow all University & SON' and program policies/guidelines -follows established standards. 3. Meetings and Events a. Attends SON, DNAP and committee meetings. b. Participates in all DNAP student, program, and recruitment events (e.g. open houses, graduation activities, etc.). c. Participates in student interviews and admissions selection committee meetings. d. Attends the AANA's Assembly of Didactic and Clinical Educators and/or Annual Congress yearly as the DNAP budget permits. 4. Scholarly activities a. Publishes a minimum of one peer-reviewed manuscript each year. b. Mentors DNAP Scholarly Projects as first or second reader as assigned by the Program and Research Directors. Core Responsibilities of the DNAP Program Clinical Director 1. Clinical Site Liaison - Primary, enrichment, and optional sites; has regular communication with site coordinators. 2. Affiliation Agreements - Yearly review and as-needed update of current agreements; secures additional sites and agreements when identified as necessary by program faculty. 3. Site Evaluations - Performs site visits at a minimum on an annual basis and documents visit findings; coordinates the collation and analysis of site evaluation forms; reports analysis at DNAP Faculty meetings, and disseminates information to individual sites regularly. 4. Affiliation Information- maintains current comprehensive documentation related to all sites. 5. Clinical Faculty - coordinates the analysis of site faculty evaluations; databases maintained; reports analysis at DNAP Faculty meetings; available to faculty to resolve clinical student issues (or appointee if unavailable); assures current licenses and certification of clinical faculty. 6. Student Contact - Available to clinical students; appoints DNAP faculty member in times of unavailability - informs students and Director/Assistant. 7. Clinical Orientation - Schedules and develops program just prior to semester 3 (oftentimes in May), before entering clinical; provides students with written guidelines/policies (reviewed and updates yearly); coordinates student acquisition of lockers, pages, scrub cards at primary site; advises students of procedures at out-rotation sites; coordinates introduction of students to all faculty at clinical sites (group photos, bios, and introductory letters). 8. Student Conferences - Provides input to Director/Assistant Director on student clinical performance; complete student conference forms; Schedules mid-semester and end of semester student conferences; conducts conferences in conjunction with Director and/or Assistant Director. 9. Daily Student Evaluations - Coordinates tracking of student daily evaluation; coordinate collation and analysis on a semester basis; identifies students who fall below expectations and reports to Director/Assistant Director. 10. Clinical Evaluation Tools - Evaluates and revises forms as needed. Graduate Nursing Programs - Interfaces with other SON programs. 11. Rotation Schedule - Coordinates student rotations; informs sites of student rotations; revises schedule as necessary. 12. Vacation Schedule - Coordinates and approves student requests within established guidelines. 13. Rotations - Develop/updates objectives for each rotation; coordinates the analysis of student evaluations of rotations; reports analysis at DNAP meetings. 14. Care Plans - Collects and assures minimum numbers as prescribed in semester guidelines; reviews mentors written comments; reports review at DNAP Faculty meetings; revises/updates care plan forms. 15. Case Numbers - Collects and reviews student case number reports on a monthly basis; coordinates review of numbers and analysis with rotations; identifies areas of low or insufficient numbers; provides advice to students on method of recording for accuracy and completeness; informs clinical coordinators of identified student case requirement needs. 16. Student Files - Maintains student files for clinicals (daily evaluations, case number records, semester conference documents, etc.); assures current license, ASLS, and PALS on file. 17. Clinical course Website - maintains website for clinical activities - call, vacation request, communication tool; assures all program faculty have site access with instructor access. 18. Employer Relations - coordinates on campus recruitment activities in accordance with program policy. 19. Accreditation Activities - Participates in activities directed at maintaining program accreditation under the direction of the Program Director. 20. Participate in development of clinical performance improvement and remediation plans in conjunction with the Program Director. a. Advise students with respect to clinical performance b. Develop strategies/plans to improve identified areas of weakness c. Provide Lab and/or tutoring sessions as appropriate The projected salary pay range for this position is $205,000 to $215,000, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
