FY26 Medical Physicist Resident

The University of Minnesota has a Radiation Oncology Medical Physics Residency position starting July 1, 2025. The residency program is conducted at the University of Minnesota, Department of Radiation Oncology and at additional sites that contribute to the educational goal of the program. The residency training program is conducted in accordance with AAPM Report 90 Guidelines and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc. (CAMPEP). The program duration is 2 years.

The intent of the program is to provide hands-on clinical education and to prepare the graduate for the ABR board certification examination and a professional career in radiation therapy. Extensive training is provided in the area of patient setup and positioning, treatment planning and planning computers, clinical dosimetry, brachytherapy, linac calibration and quality assurance, and radiation safety. Experience is offered in the special procedures of stereotactic radiosurgery (Gamma Knife and CyberKnife), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), TomoTherapy, VMAT, SBRT, IGRT, motion management, and low and high dose rate brachytherapy.

The applicant must have an M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP accredited program, or an M.S. or Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field with courses equivalent to a minor in physics. For the latter two categories, the applicant must have completed at least 4 of the 6 required Medical Physics courses listed in AAPM Report 197S, in a CAMPEP accredited graduate or certificate program. No more than two required Medical Physics courses can be remediated during the two year residency program.
