JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for accurate counting of received product from vendors and matching with purchase orders, slip sheeting, and packaging of completed jobs. Capable of constructing crates from available materials. Responsible for operating heat shrink equipment. Packages finished printed materials manually or with equipment assistance maintaining customer specifications and carrier limitations. Verifies completeness of shipment against shipping pick ticket, affixes shipping labels, selects method of shipment, weights and determines shipping charges, and issues bill of lading. Maintains shipping records and helps load trucks by performing the following duties personally.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate all machinery listed below at a satisfactory skill level, and in accordance with all OSHA and Vomela safety regulations:
    • Pneumatic Stapler
    • Hand Pallet Jack
    • Fork Lift (standard)
    • Weight Scale
    • Power Tools
  • Unload trucks, receive, identify, and inspect incoming goods and material by product type, count product, measure product and label product (include a brief description). Matches receiving paperwork with correct purchase order. Verifies count on receiving paperwork and notes any discrepancies or damage on paperwork. Forwards to Accounting.
  • Reads and follows directions on work orders, pick tickets, and bills of material. Verifies quantity to be packed and completeness of shipment against pick ticket and work order.
  • Process back order paperwork for all incomplete incoming and outgoing orders. Follow-up on all back orders utilizing the proper internal and external communication channels.
  • Obtains and sorts printed product, customer and/or Vomela owned products. Prepares, assembles, sorts, collates, bundles, and packs Vomela and customer owned products for shipment as directed by supervisor and apply company quality control standards to all procedures and pack-outs.
  • Determines proper size carton for packaging finished goods. Assembles containers for shipping or selects pre-assembled containers. Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers and protective padding when required. Operates and maintains packaging equipment necessary to pack merchandise.
  • Weighs cartons and skids, stamps or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto packages, crates or containers, affixes postage to packages, crates or containers. Records information such as weight, shipping charges, time, date packaged, and carrier.
  • Routes all customer shipments according to customer instructions and pick tickets.
  • Completes all required shipping documents, bill of lading, and company shipping records.
  • Loads and unloads trucks using material handling equipment and forklift.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of packaging materials. Stocks and maintains accurate physical inventory counts at predetermined levels for specified customer and Vomela programs. Conduct warehouse physical inventory counts when required.
  • Put stock to shelf and deliver received goods to appropriate departments in a timely manner.
  • Become satisfactorily cross-trained in basic receiving, packing, and shipping procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining warehouse machines and equipment in good working order following established routine maintenance procedures.
  • Operate telephone system including voice mail & paging for internal and external communications.
  • Operate standard office equipment including copy machine.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area and equipment.
  • Keep audit ability (manual filing) of PO's current and complete. Maintain a daily receiving log.
  • Carries out conduct in accordance with company policies, procedures, safety, and applicable laws.
  • Use and wear safety equipment as directed
  • Adhere to OSHA, company and department safety rules, regulations and procedures at all times.
  • Additional or different functions may be assigned as required.

CRITICAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED minimum
  • 2 to 3 years of shipping/receiving experience preferred
  • Knowledge various shipping and freight companies and procedures
  • Knowledge of packaging processes and materials
  • Good basic math skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills, friendly and helpful with coworkers, customers and vendors
  • Good basic knowledge and skill with computer database and use of internet for shipping/receiving duties

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Office duties at desk and computer
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Operate and maneuver shipping and receiving equipment
  • Packaging and shipping activities include sit, stand, stoop, bend, carry
