Job Summary

Collaborates with the CARTA Director of Operations and the Dean, this role involves coordinating and implementing communication strategies encompassing marketing, media relations, social media, and public relations for the College of Communication, Architecture + the Arts (CARTA) Dean's Office to advance specific goals while also supporting the overarching mission and objectives of CARTA and the University. Works in conjunction with the Division of Strategic Communications, Government and External Affairs (SCGEA) on all collateral materials to ensure unified messaging and uphold FIU brand integrity.

  • Partners with CARTA Operations Director and the Dean to develop and execute communications strategies encompassing marketing, media relations, social media, and public relations for CARTA Dean's Office to advance its individual goals while contributing to the mission and objectives of CARTA and the University.
  • Writes news stories in conformance with University guidelines. Assists with other printed and online materials being prepared on behalf of CARTA Dean's Office, including advertisements and videos.
  • Writes, revises, and copyedits materials prepared on behalf of the CARTA Dean's Office in accordance with University standards.
  • Promotes, through social media and other channels, internal and external news items related to CARTA Office of the Dean, including but not limited to events, student success stories, faculty profiles, program rankings, alumni spotlights, and any other strategic information.
  • Ensures that all social media accounts, amplifies and engages based on pre-established guidelines. Engages with audiences on social media platforms (e.g., responding to comments, answering questions, etc.).
  • Drafts speeches, op-eds, and columns for CARTA Office of the Dean.
  • Oversees promotion of events for CARTA Dean's Office. In collaboration with the CARTA Senior Special Events Manager, CARTA Operations Director, and Office of Community Relations and Special Events to cover major events for the Office of the Dean.
  • Maintains frequent contact with CARTA Department Chairs and School Directors, as well as the greater University. Maintains flexibility and sensitivity to establish and maintain necessary rapport with all levels of personnel and external constituencies.
  • Works with CARTA Account Managers and/or CARTA Staff responsible for public relations, ensures that messaging is strategic and that branding aligns with CARTA's goals, while to the University protocols and CARTA's policies.
  • Manages sensitive issues related to the designated unit, where premature disclosure could have adverse effects.
  • Interprets information/publications administrative rules and policies and recommends new and improved programs to effectively manage information/publications services.
  • Collaborates with SCGEA to manage and enhance CARTA's branding, ensuring adherence to University protocols and CARTA's policies.
  • May supervisor lower-level staff and students.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Media/Public Relations, Communications or appropriate degree and three (3) years of experience in a related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with digital communications and emerging trends to promote content when launched.
  • Experience with event marketing and public relations.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing campaigns.
