About the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives

The Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives (OADI) at Cornell University serves as a centralized hub that provides academic and professional development support and resources for undergraduate students who participate in or are interested in participating in its signature programs, as well as any other students who are interested in taking advantage of its unique advising model. OADI advisors work with students from all undergraduate colleges and schools, with a special focus on supporting the academic, professional, and community needs of students who are first-generation college goers and/or from lower-income backgrounds.

Our signature programs and direct services facilitate access to the broadest range of academic and professional enrichment opportunities at Cornell. The Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) were established in 1967 and 1969 to help facilitate students whose financial and academic environments have not allowed their potential to come to fruition. Cornell has hosted these programs since their start with the mission of "any person, any study" being central to opportunity and access.

The Opportunity

  • Provide academic, personal, and financial counseling to students utilizing the services offered by OADI, primarily supporting students enrolled in the EOP/HEOP programs, but also for other OADI constituencies.
  • Communicate with and advise prospective students and families throughout the admissions process with special attention at supporting EOP/HEOP process.
  • Assist with recruitment and provide information about EOP/HEOP guidelines and institutional policies and procedures to prospective students, parents, the Cornell community, and guidance counselors through virtual and in-person recruiting travel.
  • Advise enrolled students and prospective applicants and families on matters pertaining to financial aid.
