The Maintenance Manager leads and develops the maintenance team, ensuring the effective planning, organization, and execution of maintenance programs to support manufacturing operations in an orthopedic medical device environment. This role ensures that all equipment, systems, and facilities are maintained in efficient working condition, enhancing uptime while improving efficiency, safety, and compliance. They will lead all aspects of technical activities, set clear departmental goals, and drive the implementation of best-in-class maintenance strategies such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and predictive maintenance.

This position requires a hands-on leader with strong organizational and technical skills to direct resources effectively, integrate maintenance activities with business objectives, and ensure alignment with the company's quality system requirements for medical device manufacturing. They will evaluate and approve equipment budgets, prepare, and implement capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, and collaborate with vendors to support plant projects and equipment acquisitions. Additionally, this role develops and enforces maintenance policies, standards, and procedures that support regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

The main responsibility of this position involves promoting ongoing progress through organized problem-solving techniques. They will lead multi-functional initiatives aimed at improving asset reliability, reducing costs, and enhancing overall plant performance. This involves coordinating departmental critical metrics, evaluating progress against maintenance schedules and budgets, and making strategic prioritization decisions to achieve business goals. Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills are essential to fostering a high-performance maintenance culture that ensures long-term operational success.

What you will be doing?

  • Develop and implement a proactive preventive and predictive maintenance program to increase equipment uptime and efficiency.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance team, ensuring strong technical competency, accountability, and alignment to company policies and safety laws.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO, OSHA) by maintaining accurate documentation and supporting audits as needed.
  • Lead maintenance-related CAPEX projects, including budgeting, vendor coordination, and execution to improve equipment reliability and facility infrastructure.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures, implementing sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to support new equipment installations, process improvements, and technology upgrades.
  • Supervise spare parts inventory management to ensure critical equipment availability while optimizing costs.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities align with safety policies, environmental regulations, and standard methodologies.
  • Use CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to track work orders, analyze equipment trends, and enhance maintenance planning.
  • Develop and manage the maintenance department budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Support facility maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and utilities management.
  • Participate in risk assessments and safety initiatives to enhance workplace safety culture.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production teams on equipment operation and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist in business continuity planning, ensuring readiness for emergency response and unplanned equipment failures.

What you need to be successful?

  • BS in Engineering, or related field with 10+ years' professional work in maintenance preferred experience
  • Industry Experience: 5+ years of maintenance management experience in a medical device, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485, GMP).
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), predictive and preventive maintenance strategies, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) in a manufacturing setting.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Experience working in a regulated industry with knowledge of quality system requirements (ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, OSHA, EHS regulations, etc.).
  • CMMS & Data-Driven Maintenance: Hands-on experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), asset management, and data analysis to optimize maintenance operations.
  • Equipment & Facility Maintenance: Strong background in automated manufacturing equipment, utilities (HVAC, compressed air, water systems), and plant infrastructure maintenance.
