Position Highlights University Facility Services is seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Worker to join our team.

This position is responsible for manufacturing precision sheet metal components for various industries, including power generation and medical device manufacturing.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fabrication shop, operating specialized tools and equipment to cut, shape, and assemble sheet metal parts according to specifications. Strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work efficiently in a team environment are essential for success in this role.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares sketches, drawings and layouts.
  • Fabricates, installs or repairs air-ducts, grills, vents, downspouts, exhaust systems and hoods, containers, filing cases, cabinets, lockers, counters, and other related equipment, structures or objects.
  • Operates sheetmetal forming machines, shears, brakes, folders, bending rolls, cutters, crimpers, punch and drill presses and a variety of hand tools.
  • Operates soldering and welding equipment for fabrication or repair of sheetmetal or plastic equipment, structures or objects (ex. roof curbs, unit stands, cooler stands).
  • Analyzes plans, drawings, specifications, pattern layouts and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of sheetmetal assignments.
  • Performs mathematical and geometrical calculations for preparation of working sketches, drawings and layouts as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow schedules and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent quality control skills.
  • Excellent communications skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications Approved Apprenticeship program from the Department of Labor.
