The Nurse Practitioner Professional Development Specialist will be responsible for:
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating an ongoing program of centralized orientation for APRN staff throughout the enterprise consistent with the goals of the Nursing Department.
  • Facilitating, managing and evaluating the APP Fellowship in collaboration with NPD leadership, while ensuring alignment with ANCC accreditation standards.
  • Supporting and influencing practice setting-based clinical fellowships for APRNs.
  • Providing and supporting role transition and professional advancement activities for clinical staff throughout the enterprise, with a particular focus on APRNs.
  • Planning, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining an ongoing program of professional development and education for the Department of Nursing Patient Care Operations, not exclusive to, but specializing in, the needs of APRNs. This includes program design, classroom facilitation, both in person and remote, faculty coaching, and outcome measurement.
  • Utilizing best practices in instructional design and teaching methodologies, including the use of educational and emerging technology to deliver educationally sound programs.
  • Leading in establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with individuals, groups, or organizations to work jointly on common goals that are consistent with the needs of the Department of Nursing Patient Care Operations. Collaborating with members of the nursing professional development team to achieve outcomes important to Clinical Education & Informatics.
  • Providing leadership to promote compliance with standards, guidelines, laws and requirements of regulatory, accreditation and credentialing agencies, and professional organizations through use of effective clinical inquiry activities.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective collaboration with the Office of Health Affairs and other interprofessional teams.


To qualify, you must have:

  • A license to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an NP is required.
  • A Master's degree in Nursing or higher required.
  • Working knowledge of the NPD Practice Model within the Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Certification in Nursing Professional Development is preferred or expected once eligibility criteria have been met.
  • 1-3 years of previous experience in clinical education activities, such as classroom facilitation, competency management, simulation, or precepting.
  • Prefer candidates that are involved in councils, committees and are engaged in professional development for themselves or for others.
  • Experience designing, managing and evaluating projects or initiatives.
  • Experience creating, implementing and debriefing simulation activities preferred.
  • The analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles; theories and concepts; and in depth, cross functional experienced based knowledge.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions. Comfort in working with, as well as learning new, business or instructional technologies such as Microsoft 365/Teams, AI, Cornerstone, Articulate Rise, and Mentimeter.
