This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

Join Blue Origin's Platform Shared Services team as a Senior Software Development Engineer, where you'll design and deliver highly scalable, reusable services that serve as the foundation for applications across our company. Your work will drive rapid application development, enabling engineering, operations, and business teams to build, iterate, and create breakthrough solutions with unprecedented speed and reliability.

In this key role, you will:

  • Lead and Innovate: Architect, develop, and deploy robust, high-availability shared services-leveraging your expertise in modern frameworks and languages such as Java, Python, and JavaScript. Constantly seek creative solutions to enable new capabilities and remove bottlenecks for application teams.

  • Own end-to-end Technical Solutions: Deliver and operate critical platform services, collaborating with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to solve complex technical challenges and accelerate safe human spaceflight.

  • Champion Engineering Excellence: Set and uphold the highest standards around scalability, security, and reliability while mentoring peers and driving best practices across the organization.

  • Empower Teams: Collaborate broadly, share knowledge, and help improve how we conceive, design, and deliver shared platform capabilities-amplifying the velocity and innovation of all application teams.

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience writing software and deploying it to a production environment.

  • Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (e.g., Java or C) and one dynamically typed language (e.g., Python or JavaScript).

  • Understanding of microservices architecture and containerization standard methodologies.

  • Deep working knowledge of computer science fundamentals like algorithms and common data structures

  • Ability to solve problems by writing efficient working code, even when given incomplete or ambiguous requirements

  • Proven success in delivering software projects from inception to launch.

  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with and communicate complex systems to a varying user base

  • Experience mentoring software engineers in a team setting, including architecture, design, and code review

  • Experience in monitoring and logging practices to maintain system performance.

  • Experience in supporting business-critical services 24/7 via on-call rotation.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Ability to handle ambiguity and make informed decisions with limited information.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired Skills:

  • Experience creating rich user interfaces in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, using frameworks like React.

  • Experience deploying applications to container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes or similar systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud service providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their respective services for deploying and scaling applications.

  • Knowledge in CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks to ensure smooth production deployments.

  • Proficient in security standard methodologies for software deployment in distributed environments.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $177,567.00-$248,593.80
