Writes and edits articles, press releases, pitch letters, social media content and collateral materials that cover basic, translational and clinical research. Identifies and vets potential stories, researches, and writes the majority of feature articles and supporting materials for the Hospital's research communication vehicles. Translates journal articles into press releases or pitches for external publicity purposes. Translates complex scientific terminology and concepts for clinical, scientific and lay audiences. Coordinates writing projects that require production and design with the Manager of Communications, Senior Writer and Graphic Designers, as well as with outside design assistance. Ensures all written materials are consistent with the graphic standards of the institution and advises others on the importance of the Hospital's graphic standards and branding. Follows scientific and health journals, research presentations and other sources to identify the Hospital's authors and assess news value. Supports the writing needs of other functional areas in the department, as needed. Assigns writing to and oversees junior writers as needed.
