Position Overview:

Reports to: Program Director.

Supervises in Director's absence:


  • Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers
  • Student Employees
  • Practicum/Student Teachers
  • Teacher Aides
  • Volunteers


Interfaces with: University faculty, staff, students, community, church at large.

Education & Experience:



  • 21 years of age or older
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree
  • Pre-kindergarten Teaching License preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years of Early Childhood experience
  • Synodical college or Colloquy preferred


Essential Duties:


  • 40 hours weekly
  • Follows child care regulations presented in Department of Human Services, Rule 3
  • Document and report suspected cases of child abuse to Child Protection
  • Complete required in-service training each year
  • Complete First Aid/CPR training every two (2) years
  • Substitute in classrooms for full time staff time off as well as student employees when coverage is not found
  • Holds responsibility for emergency administrative responsibilities in the center directors absence
  • Arrange emergency staffing issues such as illnesses/absences in the center director's absence
  • Represent the child care center if needed in the center director's absence
  • Purchase needed supplies in collaboration with the center director
  • Lead weekly staff meeting in the center director's absence
  • Supervise the cleaning and maintenance of child care center in collaboration with the center director
  • Address parent questions/ concerns in the center director's absence
  • Prepare staffing patterns and scheduling in collaboration with the center director
  • Participate in the selection process of new full time staff members in consultation with the center director, Academic Advisor and other child care staff
  • Orient and train new staff members in collaboration with the center director
  • Hire and supervise student employees in collaboration with center director
  • Plan and implement fall and summer orientation for student employees in collaboration with the center director
  • Edit and publish all handbooks in collaboration with the center director
  • Work with center director to maximize the center's enrollment
  • Maintain children's records
  • Maintain student attendance records
  • Conduct tours and prepare required paperwork for new children starting in the program in collaboration with the center director
  • Promote and support open communication between parents and staff
  • Write and distribute monthly newsletters in collaboration with the center director
  • Prepare and post menus for parents
  • Arrange transportation and other logistics for field trips in collaboration with center director
  • Arrange and participate in a monthly consultation with the Health Consultant when center director is absent
  • Contact the Department of Human Services in cases of serious accidents in the center director's absence
  • Conduct daily maintenance of teaching area and office
  • Work with consultants for development and improvements of the center in collaboration with the center director
