TITLE

Manager, Data Warehouse & Integrations

JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Data Warehouse & Integrations is responsible for leading the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of university-wide data warehouse, business intelligence (BI), data integration, and web services. They will serve as a champion, advisor, and liaison to university partners and key stakeholders for the development and effective use of this suite of services, as well as the primary contact for application vendors and service providers. Additionally, they will coordinate business processes between their area and other ITS teams, and facilitate key divisional processes including incident and problem management, knowledge management, service process design, and performance analysis.

The Manager, Data Warehouse & Integrations will assist the Director of Enterprise Applications in fostering strong and collaborative partnerships between IT Solutions and greater university community. In support of this goal, they will assist in the design, delivery, and assessment of a portfolio of enterprise application technology services that support and enhance teaching, learning, research, and administrative functions.

As a member of the IT Solutions (ITS) leadership team, the Manager, Data Warehouse & Integrations will help lead the division in realizing its mission to "empower an agile, digital university and elevate technology as a strategic institutional asset". They are expected to work with the CIO, Deputy CIO and other divisional leaders to drive cultural and technological transformation within IT Solutions and promote a collaborative, human-centered, innovative, accountable, transparent, and inclusive culture within ITS.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director, Enterprise Applications

Supervises: Application Integration Engineer, Application Developer, ERP Administrator, Senior Database Administrator, Database Administrator, Data Warehouse & BI Solution Architect, Data & Reporting Developer, and Student Assistants

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

Management (35%)



  • Builds, supports, and expands a culture that is supportive of diversity, equity, and inclusion where employees from all backgrounds can succeed and thrive.
  • Trains, coaches, and mentors employees under their supervision.
  • Plans and conducts performance appraisals of employees under their supervision.
  • Conducts research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of the functions within Integration.
  • Prepares area budget and evaluate costs and performance of existing and new initiatives.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of major project timelines.


Operations (30%)



  • Consults with university partners and key stakeholders on design and implementation of new and re-designed systems to ensure that technology projects meet functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
  • Manages complete solution development lifecycle, including gathering requirements, analysis, design, application development, testing, implementation, maintenance, user follow up, support, and project management.
  • Plans, prioritizes, and manages the activities of team members to provide administrative and technical direction in support of the university's operations and ensure efficient utilization of resources and completion of work to standards.
  • Leads project work of varying complexity and priority. Actively participates in, or leads, workgroups and meetings at the department, division, or university level.
  • Analyzes performance of activities within their area and document resolutions, identify and remediate problem areas, and devise and deliver solutions to enhance the quality of area's systems and services.
  • Identifies and executes continuous improvements to process and systems.
  • Tracks and analyzes department and/or service trends and generate reports for internal and external audiences.


Relationship Building (25%)



  • Builds strong and collaborative campus partnerships for enterprise application support, building and maintaining relationships with key constituents, creating, leading, or participating in "communities of practice," working groups, planning or assessment sessions, and other collaborative efforts with key application stakeholders.
  • Collaborates on and/or leads initiatives focused on promoting digital dexterity across the university, raising awareness of current ITS services and other available or emerging technology tools, and enhancing training and development opportunities.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Participation & Support (10%)



  • Maintains awareness of current practices and future trends and best practices in business intelligence and data warehousing, data integration, and web services.
  • Represents IT Solutions and participates in the campus community by serving on working groups, project teams, and university committees.
  • Performs other duties as requested.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science or any other related discipline is required. Additional job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE

Five years of relevant experience in data management, data architecture, data integration, business intelligence, data warehouse solutions, web service development, information systems management, application architecture, or similar. Supervisory experience required. Additional job-related education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

Work is performed under minimal supervision and performance is based on the effective operation of the administrative function. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:



  • Ability to manage enterprise-level application development and maintenance using SDLC and Software Development Methodologies such as Agile, DevOps, Waterfall, Rapid Application Development, etc.


  • Technical knowledge of one or more of the following: integration platforms (eg, Azure Data Factory, Oracle Integration Cloud, Snaplogic, Mulesoft, Dell Boomi); web applications; client/server software, tools and languages, such as PL/SQL, Java, C#, Groovy, Grails, Javascript, JQuery, JSON, XML, Oracle software; ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) architecture; and data warehousing technologies and tools (eg, SAS Data Management platform, Informatica, DataStage, SSIS).
  • Skill in data management tools e.g. Informatica MDM or equivalent.
  • Skill in Microsoft Power BI, SSRS or similar reporting tools.
  • Skill in implementing data governance policies, procedures and tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (including ability to present ideas in user- friendly, business-friendly and technical language) and interpersonal skills with a focus on rapport-building, listening and questioning skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities, including ability to anticipate, identify, and solve critical problems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and strong commitment to working collegially and collaboratively with constituents at all levels in a diverse and distributed environment.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.


Additional/Desirable Skills & Abilities



  • Knowledge of relevant data-related certifications e.g. CDMP, CBIP, etc.
  • Knowledge of effective IT or other shared governance models.
  • Skill in budgeting, financial planning, and business operations.
  • Skill in data modeling (dimensional modeling, data vault, 3NF, etc.), data mining, and logical/physical data modeling concepts (including complex data and structures).
  • Ability to create and maintain a data dictionary.
  • Knowledge of ERP (such as Ellucian Colleague, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Cloud) and CRM software applications.
  • Knowledge of Application-as-a-Service development (SaaS).
  • Demonstrated skill in identifying and executing continuous improvements to process and systems.
  • Ability in in analyzing, documenting, and modifying business requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability in managing an application development team.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues, as required.
  • Ability to be highly organized and self-driven, with ability to multi-task and perform in a fast-paced environment across a portfolio of projects.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
