This is an onsite or hybrid role, based in either Phoenix, Arizona, or Albuquerque, New Mexico.



Responsibilities

    As an Environmental Planner, you will be part of the team that creates solutions for clients' environmental and engineering needs.
  • You will support and coordinate environmental projects, be a subject matter expert, and be a technical lead/author for environmental planning.
    • This includes managing permit applications and analyzing data supporting the development of environmental documents and studies for NEPA, CEQA, and regulatory compliance for various projects for private and public-sector clients.
  • Key duties will include project support, team leadership, fostering client relationships, business development, and managing and mentoring junior staff on a task level. This will specifically include:
    • Project management (proposal writing, cost estimates, budgeting, invoicing, task management)
    • Preparing NEPA and/or CEQA documentation, including
      • Level of Effort (LOE),
      • Categorical Exclusions (CATEX),
      • Environmental Information Documents (EID),
      • Environmental Assessments (EA),
      • Environmental Impact Statements (EIS),
      • Public Involvement,
      • Records of Decision (ROD), and
      • Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSI).
    • Preparing or reviewing other documentation, including Environmental Hazards Reviews, Initial Site Assessments (ISA), Phase I Reports, Technical Memorandums, and Desktop Reviews.
  • You will be working with clients, resource agencies, and environmental and technical staff to prepare environmental documents and related technical studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Planning, Biology, Anthropology, or a related field from an accredited university.

  • 3-6 years of related consulting experience leading and managing technical teams, project management, and business development, focused on NEPA or CEQA compliance. This should include the successful preparation of documents as the lead author.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Time management and follow-through skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks/projects with tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • An established and successful history executing tasks for simple and complex projects that include assisting with developing proposals and cost estimates, executing project tasks, assisting with strategic plan development, and working with private and public-sector clients.

Desired:

  • Environmental compliance, permitting, and agency experience that includes consultations with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, and other local, federal, and state agencies in the Western U.S.
  • Direct experience working with federally recognized tribes in the Southwest
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online
  • Familiarity with southwest sensitive species and ecology.
