Role of CMA in Dermatology

The Certified Medical Assistant at JHOC Dermatology clinic provides specialty care that includes procedures and responsibilities specific to our patient population. Duties include but are not limited to: preparation and clean-up of skin and nail biopsies, tissue handling, assisting in Dermatology surgery, supply management, and real-time documentation.

Outline of Role Progression

Certified Medical Assistant, CMA - entry level upon hire

Derm Tech Assistant, DTA - After introductory period (90 days), completion of Derm tech learning modules and attainment of Derm Tech certificate

Certified Derm Tech, CDT




  • After one year of promotion to DTA
  • Nursing Resource Center (NRC) experience - responding to provider messages both electronically and through telephone calls, patient chart management
  • Demonstrate the ability to function in all three areas of the clinic: General Dermatology, Dermatology Surgery and NRC (Nursing Resource Center)
  • Committee and project involvement



Education:




  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program required



Licensure/Certification/Experience:




  • Completion of CMA certification with the credentials of RMA, NCMA, NRCMA, CCMA or CMAA required prior to hire
  • Valid BLS CPR certification required upon hire; JHH accepts AHA, Red Cross, and military training network



Hours:

Four, 10-hour shifts, 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. with Wednesdays off. One-hour lunch.

Interview Process:

Phone screen, in-person interview and share time (shadowing).

Salary Range: Minimum $18.15 per hour - Maximum $27.65 per hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.

In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
